Was looking at the posibility of conecting a mixer to a cobra 29ltd chrome. Cables can be made or even bought for Conecting up a mic to the mixer and mixer to the radio. But was wondering if a D104 silver eagle Mic or say any 4 pin mic could be ran through the mixer, Noise cancleing etc. Or should you just use a Heil,Shure, etc? and why? thanks

Have no ideal why you would want to do this in the way that you have explained it.

A D-104 already has its own preamp.
There is no purpose to put it through a mixer since that is true.

If you want to use a mixer with your radio, then use a decent mic with it. That is its real advantage of having and using a mixer with your radio.

If you put a D-104 into a mixer, it will have too much pre-amping by the time it gets to the radio - and can only lead to massive audio distortion. Using a high quality unamplified mic will lead to high quality audio results - when using a mixer as the preamp.

As far as needing a push-to-talk switch and a patch cable from the mixer to the radio, then check this link out:

That is part 1 of a five part series.
Read all five parts, and it may help you get to where you want to go.

Thanks Robb, I was reading that four part series, But was questioning The use of different types of mic's. The sound I was looking for Was that clear, loud, TV radio broadcast sound and my main objective is to Zero out all backround noise......Dog barking, phone in the next room. TV in the back room, Kids playing games wit XBOX. The Silver eagle will send everything in the house over the Air LOL! Don't even need to be all that loud.....just zero backround........

Many cardiod type mics will cancel out the background noise. Because they are very directional, as was explained in that five part article. The amount of gain on either the D-104 or the mic/mixer will determine how much background noise you transmit.

Using a mixer and a cool mic will give you a sound that is more natural sounding than any other CB power mic will provide. To get a real broadcast sound; then using a high quality mic and a mixer or preamp/pro audio gear will get you there. To the degree that the radio itself is capable of; they have their limitations. But they can be made to use all of that range when carefully choosing the components, if they are set up and used correctly.

I used a behringer mixer and a sterling ST-51 on both my cobra 29 lx and a 148f, I also had a samson compressoor in the chain as well, always had great reports on the clarity and such, folks always asking WTF I was talking on. The mixer was a Behringer 1222FX model, I only used a very slight amout of reverb because it sounded nice, the mixer choice was because that was the smallest one they had available with a post EQ built in, in order to get the sound right I had to scoop the mids a fair amout, so the post EQ was pretty inmportant as I didn't want to have to run a seperate unit and risk RF bleeding into the whole setup. Works great and still does, I currently run it on my DAK 9, it can be heard on youtube, just search for 137nashville and you'll find it, if you find 456's watergate from O.K on there, take a listen to his gate of the same conversation, pretty neat, although I'm only running an Imaxx 2k with around 300 watts, so he hit me a whole lot harder than I did him. I built my switch box out of a plastic box from radio shack, maybe $10 worth of stuff and a donated mic cord and plug from some junk.

Junk the existing D-104 preamp and build one of the many MPF-102 impedance converters found on the WWW. That will play into a mike mixer very well through the unbalanced input configuration.
