I was about to instal and expo 100 expander kit into my Uniden PC 122 Model N and when I picked it up the black wire either was not attactched or fell off. Is anyone out here familiar with these or have one they can look at to tell me where the heck this wire goes on that Expander board

I called all over today tryin to find anyone with a Expo model N kit to seee where that ground wire attaches to it and nobody has one to look at anyone out here have any ideas???? I dont know how the heck that wire came off the Expo board. I thought forsure someone out here would know where this wire attaches but its not as common as a Galaxy or Cobra models. Any help would be great I want to get this radio back together...

Does anyone out here have a 122 with this booard they can check or have a expo kit to look at to see where this wire attaches to it???

Tony, that black wire is the ground connection. There are several foil areas near the PLL chip that are a good place to lap-solder that wire. Seems to me that the instructions told you to tin one corner of the 'can' on one of the slug-tuned coils and lap-solder the black wire there.

Pretty sure the right one would be L30, but I don't have any layout diagram or pics of that one here to direct you to it. L30 won't be far from the PLL chip. If you look at the solder side of the circuit board underneath L30, use the foil where the can's mounting tabs are soldered. That foil is a ground. This is less risky than laying your soldering iron up one side of those tiny cans. I worry about melting stuff inside those.

I am not being understood here. What Im trying to explain is the black wire on the (EXPANDER EXPO KIT) came detached apon opening it. I opened the package and bam there layed the black wire on the table connected to nothing. I am trying to figure out where on the (EXPANDER EXPO BOARD) this black wire goes or gets attached to it so I can then finish installing it. I have no clue where the heck it was attached.

it's just the ground wire ...any ground on the little board should do ? ...look at it closely ,if the wire just fell out or broke off from the soldered end ,you should be able to find it ,other then that put a meter on the little board and figure out what ground is and you can pretty much take it from there.

I'll look I may still have one of these kits stored away somewhere, It may take me a few days to find it.

The Black wire goes to the little ground strip that joins the two trimmer caps on the expo, the other end goes to the radios foil ground.

Hope this helps

ok im guessing its the foil side on the very edge where the wires join as they come to the board i see a nound in the dead center on that very edge

Ok thanks Ill try that tomorrow. Then I need to figure out what they consider the center pin on the clarifier so I can solder the green wire to it but theres 2 bigger solder beads right behind the clarifier and to the left a bit there 3 in a row going up and down so thats where it stumps me. this seems strang how it hooks up i cant see how it would work not going straight to the pll chip but ill have to go by what the instructions say.
