Ok guys, please don't laugh at me crying....:censored::headbang:censored: I apologize for the funky shapes that I drew, but I am using a laptop with just the touchpad....

OK, Here we go.

First picture;
In teal, is a vaiable switch that you will get a better look at in the 5th and 6th pic. Not sure what it is, or does.
In green, It is still attached by two leads that appear to be soldered thru to the other side of the board. Is this a mod, or a screw up?

Second picture;
In yellow, the little black plastic box appears to be an aftermarket mod, but I am not sure.

Third picture;
In blue, the shielding on the coax is not soldered together! Is it supposed to be, or is there supposed to be a cap, or resistor there?

Fourth picture;
In yellow, exact location of mystery plastic box from picture two.

Fifth picture; (Here is where is gets interesting)
In red, the power supply looks to have been replaced by this. Not sure if it is original or not.
In white, the variable switch this sticks out of the side of the case, and is not marked.
In purple, from pic one, the clear plastic box that is just hanging there by the two leads.

OK, the story behind this radio. I bought this on eBay as a "For parts not working" due to the seller plugged it in, and it lit up, but was unable to test it further. When I received it, the tubes were installed, but not in the sockets. They were hanging by the top electrode. Most of the pins were bent, and both sides of the tubes are black. I am afraid to plug this thing into an outlet. Can someone help me figure out what I should do? Does someone have one that is complete so I can see what I am missing, and how it should look? Can someone tell me what the variable switch it, and if that clear plastic box is suppose to be hanging?:bdh:

DID I BUY A RAPED RADIO ????? :pop::pop::pop:

Please tell me that this is all repairable, and I don't have to take out a second mortgage on a house that I don't own. :oops:

Variable switch on side

After looking at it, and calming down, it looks to me that the variable switch is for variable power. I think this was hooked up to na amplifier at one point. The rest of the stuff, I am still working on. I just freaked out when I opened the case. The tubes look ok, as I have seen pics of N.O.S. tubes, and they look the same. The pins are bent, and I have to straighten them out. I did screw up I think.... I touched the tubes with bare hands without washing my hands first. :oops: I thought they were bad, so I removed them without thinking. :headbang I ordered a new pair, just in case. They won't last long with oily fingerprints on them. I just want to know why the coax shielding is not soldered together. That still puzzles me. :pop:

Thats not a dak IX, I own one and that is in no way one of them on the inside... Looks like a conversion someone did, hopefully it's done enough that it won't take much to get it running... Hope you didn't give much for it though...

the black box looks like a noise toy and it looks like some one removed the radio board put in another. i don't think thats a v-power it looks like a tuning knob for the 2 tube amp what is the number on the tubes

Sorry, I have a 42" tv sitting on top of mine and have been too lazy to pull it off to take the cover off.... But, the drawing above is EXACTLY what mine looks like on the inside, which is what ANY IX will look like if un-molested. Not sure what that radio chassis is thats in yours, been studying on it and it's not familiar to me, however you can clearly see it's not from the late 70's when the dak's were made. Also if you look you can see the power plug is still in the back of the radio from where it used to be a mobile... The tube portion of yours appears to be bypassed, or thats what it looks like from the pictures. I'll say again, I hope you didn't give too much for it, I bought mine as a "parts or repair" item also, got lucky and it just needed a little TLC, but I still got it for less than $100. But, truth be told, the only thing that has to do with a DAK IX is the case... Not saying you might not get it to talk and hell it may even sound good, but it's not a DAK..

What is the number on the tubes?

They are Sylvania tubes, and the top number is 24JE6A, and the bottom number is 24LQ6. They are identical tubes.

As far as what I paid for it? I paid $100 with free shipping. :oops: I think I got screwed! Anyway, I might take my Galaxy Pluto that I just got, or my Connex 3300HP, and put it inside the Dak. :eek: Then it would be a custom radio. Unless the person that did the work made it a custom radio, and the tubes are a homemade amp inside the radio. That would be nice. :p:

Thanks BJ. I did print them ALL off the night I got the radio. That is why I posted this. To try and figure out WTF I had.........:confused:

Hope someone can help me make heads or tails out of this thing. I am lost. :cry:

Although I did score! I got a Galaxy Saturn(NOT THE TURBO:sad:), Galaxy Pluto, and an Aststic Night Eagle, all three in the original boxes, with manuals, for a song. :whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle:

I traded for them, and it cost me very little for what I traded for. I need two of the small black plastic button covers for the Pluto, and it will be an 8.5-9 out of 10. The Saturn is a 9-9.5/10, and the Night Eagle is a solid 9.5/10.

Pic 1 is mounted on the inside, adjascent to the back panel. Is has C1-2024 on the top, 065 in the center, and PAT 5089800 on the bottom. I know the bottom is a Patent number.

Pic 2 is mounted on the outside of the back panel, just on the other side of pic 1, and has MOSPEC, 2N3055, and X0175.

Is this a transistorized final replacement?

Should I plug this thing in, and see if it powers up?

If the shielding is not soldered together, should I solder it together before keying up?

I don't wanna short this thing out, and really screw it up!
