Does the HR2510 read differently in SSB mode?

If you have the service manual you can start at the beginning and go through the entire process. There are other steps involved.

There are individual adjustments in most radios for AM and SSB.

No the frequency display does not change when you go to sideband.

If your really wanting to use it before you get an o-scope.
You can adjust the L118 without a scope and get pretty darn close if
you have someone local to you that you know. It's nice if they're using a
good radio that's spot on frequency like an HF rig, though it doesn't have to be.
Keep you digital read out to say, 27.385 and adjust the L118. If you're transmitting on
frequency just fine then you don't need to worry about that, otherwise there's an tx adjustment as well. If your clarifier is locked with tx/rx together then when you adjust the receive pot it'll line it up pretty good. I've got the o-scope the generators and etc...
but if all the components are good you can get the alignments for receive with this method with little effort. If there are problems with other components then the test equipment will be good to have. That's not unusual for a 2510 to be off a bit.
You can do the same for USB as well. Doing that you'll be able to go from AM/LSB/USB and it should all sound on frequency. AM pretty wide so it's not usually necessary to adjust now, though with a scope you may find it off.

It shouldn't.

That is why it is labeled LSB and USB modes.

If you are using an external frequency counter and are seeing the TX freq not the same as the freq displayed on the radio while in either SSB mode that is normal.

Example
27.385 AM external freq counters displays 27.385 when radio is keyed

27.385 USB, when modulated the external freq counter should display around 27.386 TX freq give or take a few HZ.

27.385 LSB, external freq counter should display 27.384 when modulated give or take a few HZ

Never saw that on any rig I have owned. (well, maybe on a drifting Swan HF rig) I have owned a ton of Amateur rigs over the years(38+) and have never
seen one off frequency like that. If it were then people would be chasing each other up and down the band(s). Even on CB rigs, that I have had, never had that happen. (yes, checked with external frequency counter)

Really interesting, then the manufactures just put the upper and lower sideband inductors in the chassis for what reason?

Look at an alignment or service manual for any radio that has ssb, you will see the offset for tx freq some even have it for receive frequency.
