FTM-350 : Band Scan Muted?

Not sure I understand the question. Do you just have the squelch turned up too high, or is the scan function muted completely?

The actual word MUTE is on the screen above the freq when in band scope mode. :( And I dont know how to turn it off, nor can I find an answer in the manual or internet.

This is what I want to accomplish....

How ever, when I press and hold the button to activate band scope It says mute above the freq.

Good pics. I'll see if I can figure this out when I get home tonight. I like a challenge!

When you're in normal Band Scan, it's always muted (as far as I can tell). If you want to listed while you use Band Scan, then you must put the display in single VFO mode.

To accomplish this, first hold the FWD or BCK button for 2 seconds. This will put the radio in single VFO display. Then, use the normal method to put the VFO into Band Scan.

I had a lot of problems trying to figure this out from the manual when my radio was new.

Moleculo, Brian, Thank you.

I have been trying to get it to do this for almost 2 weeks now. I have found pictures on the internet of it in in dual mode, with both receivers in band scope mode, UN-Muted. How ever... getting mine to do this has been a REAL hassle too.

Today Im going to call Yaesu and talk to tech support see what they can tell me. It was very unclear as to how to get to mono mode. THAT alone took me a few days of pressing and holding buttons and different configurations of them buttons.

Again, thanks, and any light on this Moleculo would help a TON!

Just got off of the phone with Yaesu Tech support, and they said they have never run into this and never noticed the problem.

They said it doesn't make sense. You need the band scope to tune the hard to hear signals, but if your tuning it and cant hear it, how do you know your not missing what your looking for. They are looking into it, and are going to get back to me.

Also... The 1.5 firmware was released, but only as an internal release for newly shipped equipment. It doesn't upgrade anything the user can see, it was a minor update for something internal.

Thanks for the update. I agree that it doesn't make sense that you couldn't hear the frequency during Band Scan, but there are a few things that the radio does that I don't agree with ;)

Keep us updated.

Brian

To do what you are asking is very simple. When you start the "Band Scope" it starts in scan mode. Press the "STOP" button at the bottom of the radio and the mute turns off. You can then adjust the frequency manually and hear everything. I tried it out on my radio and it works well. Keep in mind that the scale is +/- 22 or +/- 50 channels visible on either side. Use the "BW" key to toggle them. I hope that this clears up what you were asking.(y)

The stop, STOPS the band scope. Like a freeze frame. It SHOULD continue to function while listening. As we all know signals are not constant, so freezing it is like a snap shot in time. No good for scanning. But thank you for brining this up.

I agree with you about that's how it SHOULD work, but depark is correct, that's not how this radio works. While the radio is scanning, the audio is muted. You have to stop the scan to move the vfo to actually hear what the scope is showing you.

After some more research and calling to Yaesu again, i still cannot get it to function as a proper band scope. How ever... The tech I spoke with at the support center, said that there have been a rash of questions about this very issue. And that the dev team is looking into making it function like it should.
