I have a True Active peak reading meter but would like to try different ones. I need ideas and where to by them I know that Bird meters can be bought on Ebay but is there any retailers that sell them new and used and who has the best deals?? I know there are others As far as MFJ I have a ctalog so that information I have so Im looking for different manufacture brands for options.

I was also quite happy with the performance of the Palstar meter I once owned. Another good choice (although you'd have to buy used) is the Yaesu YS-60. It seems to get excellent reviews. I use the YS-500 on my VHF/UHF radio and quite pleased with the build quality and performance.
Hey Tony, when you say "true" peak reading meter are you speaking of the meters with active circuitry that reads peaks and has a hold function? I see some meters that claim to read peaks but every meter that has a 12v d.c. input doesn't read peaks. Some of them use the 12v to light the unit. Historically the Nye Viking, and later the Radiocraft clone as far as analog meters go read avg and peak and they had an active circuit which made that capable. In the digital meters I see the Autek and the more expensive variants have that feature. Some of the meters that also measure reflected power with cross needles claim to read peaks but can that be done without the active circuitry?
