CB to 6M?

I caught the tail end of a conversation on 2M the other night. Individual claims that he is going to use a 11M amp on 6M. I don't know if they are going to do some kind of conversion or modification. They said they had a couple of "CB amps" laying around and was going to put them into service on 6M.

I'm a little intrigued by this.

Thoughts?

Found this on another site :

I converted a Kris Power Pump to 6ms.. with great results. bypassed the driver stage(to take10w from my Kenwood ts-600).Retuned the input.tapped the tank coil 2 loops back.and put a 100mfd 25v cap across the relay for the SSB to hold the relay a second or two.

2 hour mod.. I think building a ceramic tube amp is NOT easier and faster to build since Ive build many .

Sorry forgot 10w in 70w out not a beast slayer but better than 10w

Sure it is possible and not that hard. I took a small single 2sd1446 11m amp and moved it up to6m by changing some caps on the input and output. I also took a mirage 2m. Amp and moved it down to 6m.

I got an old tube amp that can be configured by moving a wire over from 25-35mhz and 35-50mhz, i bet it would work on 6m too with little or no modification, but its going to need a recap but i'll be sure to test it out once its fixed.

The SB-200 uses 572B tubes rated at 30 MHz tops. This tube has low gain and can become unstable on VHF due to the long internal grid leads inside the tube that present a high inductance on VHF. If you are seeing reasonable results on 6 meters out of the 572B tubes, they are probably the Svetlana type. The more compact design is likely to have less inductance.

Many sweep tube CB amps can be modified for 6 meters. You want something with 4 or less tubes in the final otherwise stray inductance and capacitance will get you again. To clean these amps up on 6 meters just convert the Pi network to a Pi-L. All you need to do is add another small coil in series with the output tank. About half the diameter and inductance as the tank tuned for maximum output.

Hello I have a old school 2950 receives great on all modes and transmits great on AM but no transmit on SSB. Does anyone have any idea?
