Yaesu Update question

Good to know. Both of my ftm-350ar's have 1.6
help me find a way to use vb7 or whatever yaesu uses and ill hack the radio's firmware and rip a copy of it send the same version to you.l

Before applying anything higher than 1.3 to your radio, I would contact Yaesu. When I asked them via email about the newer version, I was lead to believe that it was not compatible with older boards.

I ran into the same issue, my FTM-350AR came with version 1.5 I was told how ever that the panel version 1.1 needed to be updated... After the update I was at version 1.3, and still at pannel version 1.1.. Not happy after that at all.
do you notice any diferences between the 1.3 and the 1.6?

I wouldn't know as my radios are up to date since I purchased them.

Faulty Firmware 1.6
My 350RE has firmware 1.6 apart from a few minor bugs it worked great.
However, after a violent thunderstorm everything went pear shaped and it began behaving badly, mere coincidence or what I don't know.
Now my FTM-350RE has been consigned to storage as I can't get a 1.6 firmware update to correct the problem, nor can I get any response from Yaesu globally to my e-mails. Just ordered a new Kenwood TM-D710E, at least it will work until the filters die, and I can repair that myself.

Update: Thanks to Sam, Yaesu UK, I finally got my hands on the elusive 1.6 update, installed and problems sorted.

1.3 is OK to use.
As far as I am aware 1.6 is for European use only.
This may be the reason it is not on US website, I will check.

Hi Doc & Vanilla Sky, the jury's still out on that one, however I'm inclined to lean towards the effects of the thunderstorm as lightening struck the QTH and all the trips when off causing a power outage. The 350 was not connected to an external antenna but a WonderWand multi bander, it was working perfectly prior to the storm and when switched on again it took an unusually long time to display.
The SET menu options did not work, no TX, memories wiped, and eventually the display froze. I should point out my rig came with version 1.6 (exp) factory installed, I wasn't updating. But it seems that version 1.3 and 1.6 are actually compatible, possibly having minor differences, see Yaesu comments in previous post update. Anyway, installing the update cured the problem I'm glad to say!

I think it would be safe to say that the near-by lightning strike/surge 'got to' your radio. I think it's also safe to say that if all it did was scramble it's memory, then you are very lucky!
If it 'popped' the 'breakers', then there was a surge in your house wiring until those breakers 'broke', which is 'normal'. The antenna that radio was connected to isn't the only source of 'surge' that can affect the radio, the power lines/mains are another source. As you found out. All things considered, would you buy me a lotto ticket?? If I win, I'll be happy to reimburse your costs...

Firmware Update 1.6 (EXP)
Got an email from Sam Yaesu UK below......
You should not have uploaded the update to Yahoo Group.
Software should only be available from our official website.
I know you believed what you were doing was correct but please do not do
something like this again.
We have had problems with people downloading incorrect software to their
radios.
