best 11meter vertical ever, period.

The Sigma 4 is not that great compared to a 5/8 wave. My Sigma 5/8 out talks my sigma 4 any day!!!!

Interesting. Can you describe your location and the lay of the land, as well as your installation/mast/height/etc.?

So you would buy one

I am not surprised when some folks find a technically inferior antenna more to their liking than a superior product. It usually boils down to usage.
For example consider those who would bet their favorite peanut butter and jelly sandwich on the Merlin. I have analyzed the radio habits of those who champion that one most loudly. Typically they are those who run heavy wattage usually also in their vehicles, and mostly talk to each other over and over. Their conversations run mostly to who hammered each other. Their DX logs are a sampling primarily in one or two areas of division 2 with a significant deficit of truly long distant contacts.
Now a little of the above is tongue-in-cheek, but it serves my point. They want a design that handles power, talks to a given special interest group within a single or at most double high angle bounce, and allows them maximum receive on a local level so they can call their friends over from a mile or two away with 5000+ watts to come and see their latest install of alternator 82 on the mobile.
A really potentially low angle antenna with a gamma match system would require they lessen the impact of their hammers and pray for long path conditions to communicate with their neighbors.

;)

Hey, you just might have hit on somethin - what if I bought a Merlin and removed the main radiator and replaced it with a Saturn??!!

Now THAT would kick some astron! :sneaky2:

it would be interesting to see the differences between the stock merlin and then replace the coil and top-hat section with typical straight tubing . and it would need to be done by folks that are competent and believable .

BM, in my experience with my old A/P (top one), where I replaced the short radiator and top hat with a full 1/4 wave radiator, I couldn't tell any difference in the signal reports I took, with both antennas on the same mast and feed line setup...for all you disbelievers in ReoLinda. ;)

Those results from many signal reports taken, showed both antennas with the same exact average Sunit signal result taken over a period of time. So, if there is a difference between a full 1/4 wave and a shortened radiator with a top hat in this case, then it wasn't detectable on my radio at my location at that time.

I can show you using modeling just how this difference, between two such designs, is different and manifest itself, but in the boot...the difference only compensates for the shortfall with the short antenna. Those results end up equaling the longer antenna because of the advantage in compressing the current distribution on the short radiator, so we end up not seeing any detectable difference when using our radio.

I could do that for you Booty, but you don't believe anything regarding modeling, so I won't bother, but I do <gotproof>.

You'll just have to have faith in me on this one. I may show others if asked, but you have to promise all of us not to look at those results, or you will turn into a pillar of salt, OK? (y)

was your vertical less than 6 ft tall marconi ? did your starduster have a big top-hat on top ? did it also have a big coil right under that antenna ? if not then you didn't test a merlin . according to the claims the coil is supposed to push more current up the vertical (what is keeping it from traveling up a metal tube or wire to start with ?) and the tophat tophat lowers the TOA , it also provides several to many s-units more signal than every and any omni antenna it's compared to and the i10k hears nothing at the same height . in fact it has been said up to 15 s-units more signal than any other omni it's been compared to .

the merlin should work , there's no reason why it shouldn't work , it's the stupid claims used to support it .

BM, all this stuff in your post above may be an issue that lacks any valuable information or credibility for sure, but nothing I was talking about had to do with such wild claims. I guess your mind is just hung up on such claims, claims that you absolutely do not believe...yet the idea possess you...with a vengeance for a subject you repeatedly harp on incessantly. I don't have an answer for that Booty Monster.

Here is the post that I responded to, where I was trying to address your "what-if" idea. I posted such results long ago. However, I didn't address the issues with the Merlin. I have not been convinced, one way or another on that particular antenna, but we all hear lots of unfounded complaints on the ideas, but I'm not convinced by these ideas either. So my opinion is still out for now, regarding the Merlin.

If you would just calm down a little bit, you might realize that your quarrel is not with the antenna, but the punks that spoke those words describing their experiences using and comparing the Merlin.

Boy, you must have taken a nasty pill today. If someone was ever able to convince you of anything, it seems you would likely do just like those punks did, that upset you...by speaking so highly of the Merlin.

Don't you get the contradiction, or am I just :bdh:hoping you understand?

so why don't you get a merlin marconi ?
and yes , i enjoy calling their BS and getting them to gang up together being pissy . i know sometimes they post shit just to get a reaction , and i return the favor .

Is that the only argument you can come up with, "...so why don't you get a merlin marconi ?"

What a waste of your time. Don't you know they are the one's in control in this instance? They have you dancing like a monkey on a rope. Their ego's demand that they always have somebody responding to their insanity...and you are the victim.
