I saw a good deal on a K40 "TRUNK" mount antenna on the net.

Can't you remove the trunk lip base to install as a "ROOF" mount?

IAW, If I bought a K40 labeled as a trunk mount I should be able to roof mount it without scrounging for some other part?

Are they still made in the USA? I see different info on warranty, some places say 5 years and the rest says 2 years. Sparky's CB says 2 years. Not sure if K40 got bought out by some screwball company.

My Wilson 1000 is giving me fits, I think I have a bad coil base and just want to try a K40 instead.

It's been a long time since I had a K40, but I remember it being really easy to remove the clip for the trunk mount. I just drilled a hole to mount the antenna and reused the hardware that held the clip in place.

Don't know anything about the warranty questions though.

I've seen one pic where there is a donuts gasket that seals between the base and roof. Guess I could order that separately if its not included.

Don't run any power through it. There is a capacitor that couples the hot wire of the coax to the twist on connector. When they go bad the reflect will be quite high. The Wilson and Sirios don't have this and don't need it. Brand new I am 90% sure the hardware for roof mounting is included.

Agreed, a small 2 pill can slide by just keep the dead key at like 70 or less watts and maybe 300 ish pep. Too much more and that cap will pop like Psycho said.
