So my radio says i got a 1.3 to 1.6 swr channel 10 and below with its little digital bars.My swr meter says my swr channel 1 to 10 is a 1.1 to 1.2 match....Now heres the kicker. My radios power output likes to agree with the radio.channel 10 and below on ssb and the bars on the radio wont swing past half way telling me the power aint getting out.

Now when i play with the rf power knob turn it down on channel 1 it tells me my swr is 2 bars "1.6" when i turn the power up no bars.At the end of it the radio still says no to swinging full power on ssbchannel 10 and below. So i think my radios swr in this case is right and my meter may be wrong. So should i turn the rings down a bit on the antron?

1) Don't trust the radio's SWR meter; trust the external/dedicated SWR meter.

2) There is always going be a change the SWR - and the channel you are on. This is because of the antenna; not the radio. On ch.1 and ch.40; expect a difference in the SWR.

3) AM is used to test SWR; not SSB.

The swr was tested on am with mic gain down.Basically the swr meter outboard says i have a good match down there but when i switch to ssb to talk the power doesnt go past 4 bars on the radios meter the swing from my voice yet above channel 10 the power swings to the top.

That is correct

Basically the swr meter outboard says i have a good match down there but when i switch to ssb to talk the power doesnt go past 4 bars on the radios meter the swing from my voice yet above channel 10 the power swings to the top.

That is probably the antenna's doing.
If you were to put a 50 ohm dummy load on the SWR meter output; then your radio's 'bars' would react the same - no matter what channel you were on.
;)

The SWR bar thing on a 2950 is probably the most worthless feature on that radio. At best it will tell you, yes you can talk, or no you have a problem. That's it. There is no way you can look at those bars and say your SWR is a 1.3 or 1.6
