Ok first is a gold solarcon coily antenna it looks to be a 3000 is this an Ok antenna or just good for a conversation peice?? Second antenna looks to be a nice NUG-A-TRON larger style coily antenna any info on these and there performance from those who actually have experience with these or KNOW these antennas I dont care if you think there junk or not as good as your antenna or your dads and brothers or your bestfriends so what Im looking for is honest knowledgable answers this isnt a competition its a question on what these are about and there specs please! Thank you in advance..... Tony

Good luck

I never heard of those antennas myself
used to use a different solorcon for the mobile and it destroyed everything else out there ( in the early and mid 80's )

I've heard of the Nug-A-Tron, but it's been a while. If I remember right, it's just a larger style, coil style antenna that is heavy. Take some pics and post 'em.

Years back in the early 90's I used the Solarcon (Antron then) with a magmount on a Mustang GT, modded Cobra 148, TS DX250. It worked well; below ch.1, above 40,as well as regular 40. The stinger that came with it was too short and would not tune until I replaced it with a longer stinger. Winter snows would affect the SWR a bit, but 'Stang GT's aren't a good choice for a winter ride. Still have the 3000 out in the garage in the mobile antenna bin. Hope this helps.....

if you look above the antenna pic you will see writing is very faint thats the specs or information on the Solarcon antenna. If you left click and highlight that writing as if you were copying it to paste it it will darken and you all can seee the specs on the antenna WOW kinda like secret code whoooooooooo LOL I dont know what the deal was but I tried different ways of pasting this info and they all ended up like this damn near invisable

solarcon

the antron 3000 was made by solarcon in the early 90,s they were good coil antennas that transmitted and received well i had an solarcon 20kl in the early 90,s that had a very large coverage on the transmit side i remember i used to talk to base stations between 50 to 80 miles away on a good clear night with know problem now the 3000 came out after the 20kl and i never owned one but i used to hear good things about them back in the day!!!

I am running a Nugatron on my vehicle now. You can tell them from other open coil antennas by the engraving work on the shaft and the antenna is almost seven feet tall. And they are very well made of solid aircraft grade aluminum and actually is a very light antenna. Best mobile antenna I have used in the past fourty eight years. The Nugatron will match 1.2.1 or lower all the way through 10/11 meters if the antenna is mounted on top of a vehicle. If they weren't out of business I would buy another one in a heart beat. They were made in Percell Oklahoma by a guy named Dennis and his wife, the antenna got so popular that they couldn't keep up with orders and just quit making them.

I'll agree with you on the Nugatron, one of these days I'll find one for sale... Good antenna....

What is the stock whip (stinger) length? I have one and had posted it but if it does not sell Ill just use it on 10 meters. Ill tell you what its half the weight as my solarcon style antennas unbelieveably lightweight!! These things are built well I was suprized at the construction.

Here are the only pics I can find of a Nugatron it looks like a MR Coily & crossed with a 10k it just has fatter coils

I found this old Nugatron brochure that I had stored away since back in early 90's
