2510 Problem

One of my 2510's has low power on the 10 meter band, maybe 8 watts ssb. Below 10 meters it is strong, 30 watts or more. It has been to the 2510 expert twice now and still does this. What could it be? I am about to give up and sell it, can't afford to keep shipping it back and forth.

I sent it to Rogerbird for repair and tune. I have 3 swr power meters, 2 radio shack and one workman. The workman shows about the same power above and below 28mhz. The radio shacks show a big drop above 28mhz. My other 2510 does not do that on the radio shack meters the power is about the same on all frequencies. I know the radio shack meters do not show swing on am just the dead key power, the workman does show am swing. The radio shack meters do not have the circuitry I guess to show PEP or swing. It is funny that one radio drops off and the other does not on the same meter. The one radio shack meter seems pretty good even the ham guys reviewed it pretty good on one of their sites so I have been using it more than the workman. The workman does not read swr's correctly but seems ok on the power side.:(

You need to find someone with a known good watt meter and a dummy load. What does the built in relative power out meter on the radio show? Does it show the power drop?

Im thinking possibly an antenna issue aswell. maybe antenna is tuned more so for 11 meters but works on 10 but maybe just not as efficiant??

I think it is the swr, watt meter maybe. I found a real old Palomar electronics meter I have had since the 70's and it shows pretty consistant power above and below 28 mghz. The 2 radio shack meters don't agree with this and show low above 28. I need to get a dummy load and a better meter to be sure. The rf meter in the radio does not show any drop off and my swr's are below 1.5 in the 10 meter band.

tuning

i think its the antenna my 2950dx does this if i drop into the low 11 meters my radio meter dont swing much on ssb same as if i go to high into close to 28mhz.I think your swr is climbing in those ranges and the power is not getting out of the radio.

The swr's are good in the 10 meter band, my antenna is not very broadbanded and is only good from 27.700 to about 28.500. It is no more than 2.0, more like 1.5 or less in the 10 meter band. I think it is just the cheapo watt meters can not see the ssb power on peaks. The am power is about the same in the band my antenna works in but ssb power drops above 28mhz. I need to get a dummy load and a better meter to be for sure.
