Pretty Cheap For A "NEW" Yeticom Optima MKII

EBAY OPTIMA MKII

Hey,Guys came across this post so I thought I give you guy,s some information about these Optima MKII Radios being sold on Ebay. I am the seller ! I had purchased several of these radios from Dave at yeticom-nz in September of this year for resale in Colombia SA. A friend of mine that lives in SA and who visits me often here in the states uses these radios to communicate with his field worker,s. So far he has not experience the display issue that others are having nor have I. This might be because upon receiving these radios I had to send them back to the manufacture to have the front panel replaced with the panel used on the first generation's of the optima,s . The main reason for this was that I was not happy with the channel selector. To me it was way to loose so they replaced the complete front panel. So I will give anybody on this forum a seven day trail money back guaranty that if the radio shows signs of a display issue I will refund there money. Thanks for reading Robert Please note the money back guaranty is for members of this forums ONLY !!!

That's a very generous offer. Definitely a huge savings. I paid $375 to have mine shipped to Ohio.

It took over 3 months for my display issue to surface. My radios are usually on daily from 0830-2200.

I paid the 375 also but in honesty 51 dollars of that was for shipping from China and it was here in 3 days from date of shipping. Faster than anything I get shipped here in the US. My display bugged out one time and has been fine since. All I did was turn it off and back on and that was months ago.

As I said before.

Mine does it on an almost daily basis. It's happened to enough MKII's that the factory decided to address and fix the issue in the MKIII.

Did you see how much the brand new Optima went for on EBay? Like $189 or something with free shipping. That's because the MKII has lost it's resell value. If turning the the knob on and off makes you happy, then more power to you.

Maybe you should start a poll and ask others if they would be happy with a $375 shipped radio, with an unstable PLL, being told to suck it up and just "turn it off and on", cause we ain't gonna fix it for you. How many readers of this thread do you actually think would be happy with Yeticom's response to this defect?

I am so thrilled that YOU are so happy with yours. I like mine as well. I'd like it a hell of a lot more If'n the PLL wasn't defective.

Face it, Yeticom dropped the ball on the MKII owners. My continued advice to potential buyers: Run away from the MKII's, unless you can get it CHEAP.

Duster that is why all kind of items are for sale all over the world. People think different and have different results with different products. Where did Oldsmobile go?? Got 3 of them here in my driveway all have over 140,000 on the odometers and still all run well, no issues. Guess we all just get lucky with some things and some not so lucky.

Duster as the old song goes " Different Strokes for Different Folks". I understand your plight with the display. If you send it back to Yeticom in a medium flat rate box the cost is 47.95. I know you are angry about the display but if you send it back and are the original owner I'm sure Dave will fix it for free and maybe get all the new updates done at the same time. Dave is a very fair man, at least to me he has been. If you do get it repaired and still don't like it you can always list it as having the MKIII updates.

My shipping quote is higher than that with insurance. I'm not putting another nickel in the radio, period!

It was publicly mentioned in this forum that the unstable PLL is a non warranty repair. So why bother? They won't fix it because they'd be committed to fixing all the other MKII owners with similar PLL issues. It's just easier to issue a lame excuse like, it's just a quirk or a minor nuisance, no warranty repair needed.

I have relegated it to my occasional use shelf. I will stick with companies that HONOR their warranties and stand behind their products.

I am not trashing the radio itself. It plays very well. It's just that the PLL display issue should be a warranty repair.

The only reason I keep replying to your posts with my continued drivel and making a nuisance of myself, is because of your persistence in trying to calm MKII owners or potential buyers that this issue is silly or trivial.

I believe potential buyers should be able to make an informed decision before dropping a big wad on the MKII.

I don't care if my grandma and grandpa owned Yeticom. I'd also call them out for dumping on the poor little MKII beta testers.

I've been licensed since 1974. I have spent many thousands of $$$ on new and used radios and equipment since then. I've owned my share of turds and duds. I can't recall any newly purchased radio not being fixed under warranty when a problem arose. Luckily, most of my equipment operated as it should.

Now, for what really pisses me off, just so you know.

An unstable PLL is a DEFECT, plain and simple. It is also a DEFECT that should be fixed under their terms of warranty. There should be no issuance or utterance that it is a quirk, nuisance, non issue or minor inconvenience.

Call me what you will. I just call it as I see it.

You might have to go back to smoke signals to make that quote work, fewer and fewer manufacturers/resellers are showing those type of policies, although I agree they all should be, the biggest problem is too many people leap in believing all the hype before giving time to give the chance for reccurring faults to show,it definately pays to be patient and wait till most initial problems are ironed out, anyone buying a mk1 mk2 and sometimes mk3 is off their head,be patient and wait till all those fault reports have been dealt/undealt with before shelling out.

There is no truer saying than a fool and his money are easily parted except maybe what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Very true indeed.

But,

Icom, Drake, Kenwood, Yaesu, Alinco, MFJ, RCI, Magnum, Uniden, Galaxy and now Univercom have never let me down.

The best of the bunch was Drake and Uniden. I can't recall any of the others pissing with me on a warranty claim either.

I have to give honorable mention to RCI and Magnum. Especially Sam, I had my share of problems with a 257HP. The man treated me like I was his favorite son in law.

These are/were established companies and had the capital to fix your woes.
