I have 2 friends that talk on CH 19 and they run bases. Almost every time we chit chat the drivers get all bent out of shape. My reply? "You have 39 other channels to talk on if you don't like it then go to another channel!"<can not stand it>

Well whatever. They don't like it they can kiss my a$$. They don't own anything..

Some of us driver still use 19 for information about traffic and such. So these drivers probably get annoyed with useless chit chat that could be held elsewhere.

Me, I don't care. I may try to talk to the base stations or I just may turn down the CB and turn up some tunes and go my merry way. I learned a long time ago that there is always going to be some jackass who thinks he own the frequency just because he has a little power.

Ch 19 was pretty much established by gentlemen's agreement to be a national truckers channel. This has been known almost since the beginning however it takes gentlemen to abide by it. Most people that operate base stations on ch 19 either do so in conjunction with truckers or to annoy them on purpose. remember just as the truckers have 39 other channels to operate on, so do you.

I suspect all this is well known to those involved anyway.

Agreed.

I never go on 19 unless I have a friend that's there monitering, and I need to get ahold of him, then we move to another frequency. I let the truckers have it. Generally I'll move to ch. 39 LSB to carry on conversations.

~Cheers~

I never use ch 19 for chit-chat. I know it seems strange in the cell phone era, but there are many truckers who still rely on ch19 for directions and road conditions. I would never want to interfere with someone trying to do their job.

I don't live to far from a busy city where ch 19 is used for finding the different ports and loading docks, Tight old streets and oneway signs low bridges, There is a few people on 19 I have listened to them help out or back there radio down when they can't help to let someone else talk.
I turn 19 on sometimes when the other chanels are dead if I am on the road in the work Van.

glad to see you feel that way.;)

then you won't mind if a few drivers park their diesel cars under your antenna and chit chat with their sweet 16's on AM{Cry_river}

here in my area 19 is the local channel, but has a lot of traffic because of all the warehouses and interstate nearby, usually any trucker that comes thru saying any thing to bases is because he is tired and needing a little more ways to go, he will agigtate someone to stay awake. the others just have a problem ,,,,,telling bases that they are on welfare and they dont work and to get off a working mans channel. then there are the few that just gets their rocks off messing with people ,,,radio rambos. i aint got no panties on, can i borrow your old lady for 1/2 hour ,,,,,list just goes on,,, my best advice is dont pay attention to them you are feeding them when you do,,, just like all truckers given some time they move on down the road. 73s midnight special

Do you hold your talks with your friends on channel 9 also ??

If you do Not understand why 19 is for typically mobile only operations... then you are not too intelligent....

To suggest a trucker and or mobile op go elsewhere on the 40 channels is absurd.....

Perhaps you should try driving a 500-1500 mile road trip

I go back and forth from CA to IA just about every year to take care of farm business with the family farm in IA. Always take my CB/10m radio with me. I switch between 19AM and 38LSB (for talking skip) the whole way. If/when I need road info, gas info, 'smokey' info (can't believe I just wrote that - lol!), or just a fine place to get lunch; then Ch 19 and the truckers always have the best answers. Talk a lot about radios - it seems. Makes the whole trip more enjoyable and less boring (2500 miles) Just fun to talk to them too . . .
