err,..... just what "audio" are you hearing on 80 meters

I have done a bit but not in the past couple years. Been pretty much QRT the past couple years. Nothing special for gear, just a Heath DX-60B with matching HR-10 receiver that needs work and HG-10 VFO. I use a Kenwood R-1000 as a receiver until such time that I actually fix the HR-10. I use a Sennheiser MD-421 studio microphone, an outboard SP-1A speech processor and an EQ. Both the processor and EQ are set up for minimal effect but just a bit of a boost. I used to use a Harris limiter until one day when I plugged it in and it went supernova and caught fire.....literally. A cap exploded and spewed burning tar like crap everywhere inside. :censored: I hope to get back on the air in general in the spring/summer and back on AM again in the fall.

AM

I am on 75 am, nothing special being a poor man..ALINCO DX70T at 40 watts to a 80 meter dipole, it gets out, mostly on in the mornings.
DOCTOR 795

I get on 885 880 quite often with many good am ops there, made many friends.
Nice nets on Wednesdays usually.
Flex 5000a and my favorite Drake twins

Do those "Big" stations run 1000-1500 watts plate modulated output? That would require a 750 watt modulator and a hefty modulation transformer.

Naaahhh....they all run max legal output of 375 watt carrier at 100% mod despite a lot of them having a full 1000 watt carrier (or more) capability. Even all those Collins 20V2's on the air.
