some of you AM'ers may want to play this weekend.

I may try around 29.000 -29.200 on my riceburner:D

note: if you are a TECH, you do not have A.M. fone privs , (or any privs above 28.500), so get a "control operator" and come out an play

heck, if you follow the linky, there is even a FREE logging program.

In addition to points, recognitions will be made on an ad-hoc basis, depending on the specific situation.
Examples of these are:

a) Unusually good operating practices, facilitating contacts, etc.
b) Very unusual or unique equipment
c) Most clip leads in the transmitter
d) Most hum or incidental FM
e) Longest transmission heard
f) Highest weight to power ratio
Etc, etc, etc.

Who says a tech can not use AM below 28.5 MHz if it is not too wide?

I think I just did,

ok, I'll restate that,..............

"note: if you are a TECH, you do not have A.M. fone privs in any band .

Techs do not have AM privileges on 6M,2M,1.25M etc.... ???? I must have missed a rule change.....

Anyone can run AM mode on any band as long as they have the proper ticket for that band...
Correct
On 10 meters 28.300 to 28.500 is SSB Phone for the Tech, click the link below .....scroll down to the 10 meter section and look at the YELLOW area in the 10 meter band privileges and note the line that is labeled NOVICE and TECH with a 200 watt limit.
The rest is GREEN, that allows the higher class of License to use PHONE Modes, excluding the lower portion to CW, RTTY and Data

Also note that 60 meters is USB mode only.

Just another point of reference....not craved in stone...but there are certain emission types that obviously that are limited to certain sections of the bands...
And AM is one of those emissions in the US....

Novice and Techs have no alocation on HF freq's allowing the use of AM....
Sorry Guys....get your upgrade....

Aren't these just the ARRL's suggested band plans??? I do not recall seeing them in Part 97 ?????

Yes it is included in the current part 97.

Yep gentleman's agreement

It is not a gentleman's agreement, it is in fact in the FCC rules, part 97.

only transmit a CW emission using
the international Morse code or phone emissions J3E and R3E.

Telephony using amplitude modulation: double sideband is defined as A3E
From Part 97:
Read starting from § 97.305 Authorized emission types.

(In regards to 10 meters, 28.300 to 28.500)

(10) A station having a control operator holding a Novice Class operator license or a Technician Class operator license and who has
received credit for proficiency in telegraphy in accordance with the international requirements may only transmit a CW emission using
the international Morse code or phone emissions J3E and R3E.

You MUST hold a general class or higher to transmit AM in the 28.300 to 28.500 portion of 10 meters.... It would not be in good amateur practice to do so, because it has always been a "gentleman's agreement" that USB is used there, with the AM sub band starting at 29.000 to 29.200, however it is legal for them to do so.
