Ok maybe I'm blind?

I cannot find the mic wiring diagram for my Uniden 980. Looked in the manual.

I have a Ranger SRA-117A echo mic I used with my 2950DX (6 pin) and since the Uniden has a 6 pin mic plug, I was wondering if it will work on the 980?

Anyone?

CBRadioMagazine?

check the center pin to see does it have 13.8 volt with a voltmeter before you try swapping microphones or you could blow the microprocessor by shorting it to a channel up/down pin.

Well the website is as useless as the owners manual.

I tried sending support an email but the contact us form does not work

I guess I will try the phone call next.

I am posting an image of the RCI mic pinout (6 pin) for easy reference

I'm not much help on this one as as I just used the adapter when testing mics and I don't have a 980 here anymore.

Here's a thread from this forum from someone who said they think they figured out the wiring - http://www.worldwidedx.com/cb-band-cb-radios/140017-uniden-980-ssb-22.html

Not sure if their info was 100% correct though so proceed with caution.

Do you have the adapter? You know the 4 pin side is the standard cobra/uniden setup, so pull apart that end of the connector and figure out the wires and then see where they match up on the other side and you'd have a start at least.

Or you could replace the ranger mic connector to a 4 pin and use the adapter?

Definitely look out for that pin with voltage :)

Well I finally got an email from Uniden when I asked for the mic pinout of the Uniden 980 SSB

Our Solution:
Thank you for using our system.
Unfortunately this information is not available as we do not recommend using aftermarket items

Thanks

Sincerely,

WOW, JUST WOW

Page E9 of the manual states the following

Your Bearcat 980 SSB comes with an adapter to connect the radio’s 6-pin microphone jack to an aftermarket 4-pin microphone.

My recommendation is not to buy Uniden products if they cannot even support their customers needs
