Forgot my coax was unhooked from my antenna. Keyed up and spoke 5 or 6 times, short 1-2 seconds each time. Realized what I did, hooked the antenna up keyed up 2 more times then realized the coax was also unhooked from the radio. D. A. of the week! This was done on AM and LSB

The radio is Uniden Grant XL stock, in a mobile install.

I live out in the country, so not sure if damage was done. Seems to be working I can hear distant talking on both AM and LSB. But I live far enough out that no one can hear me. So not sure if its working.

What do you guys think?

You're the first guy to do that. Ever. :D As m42duster says, you're ok. (y)

Grant XL's are great rigs. I have two of 'em!

AWSOME!!! Now I know I'm not the ONLY guy that did it!!

Pretty much did the same exact thing bout two years ago and my cobra 29 hasnt had a hiccup yet...(y)

I once loaded my TS-2000 directly into my 940:cry:,.... 100 watts and no damage to the front end.

now I double and triple check whenever I make coax changes

The longer your into radio and how far into it you are this stuff never stops or ends LMAO!! Im not even gonna start on the foolish mishaps Ive done. I have red articles where techs have purposely keyed a radio mic with a rubberband and left to eat breakfast and came back unkeyed the radio hooked up an antenna and all was still good.

Ide never do this with a good radio but often think about pulling out an older radio maybe a 23 channel and seeing how long it would handle this abuse. Im sure if a radio is peaked for higher wattage it would be faster to fail because of the higher power dissapating into heat.

I once accidentally tuned my FT-101E up into a 2 pill amplifier designed for about 5 watts input. I put about 50 into it. Hey, what's that smell??? D'oh! Needless to say, the two pill was not ok. And I learned the hard way that stud mount MRF 455's were not very cheap!
