Look at this way. The KLV1000's is being sold for $600.00. And the Sweep tubes art as good as the 3-500Z. That’s the heart of an Amplifier. :shock:

i know a guy who just bought a killer on for 300 but the had to put a keying unit in it and new tubes , but if yours is totally redone flash 500 they might take it

Now onto the question at hand. See if you can pick it up for 500, and drop the other 200 in some new caps in the powersupply section. If you have any cash left over invest in a small driver. 3-500z's like some drive. In the case of an SB-220, 50-200w is not out of the question. Triodes need drive. I really doubt you'll see a KLV 35 years from now like you have the SB220.
I really met to say aren’t as good as a 3-500Z tube. My father had a Heathkit SB-220 with five 3-500Z with an external transformer in a Winchester box. That did 7,000 watts when I was a kid. I own a KLV 1000-P Amplifier with a Ranger 2995 DX. I paid around $600.00 for the amplifier new. I know for sure that the EL519 aren’t as good as the 3-500Z. The KLV 1000’s is not a bad amplifier if you treat them like a baby. And I had trouble with the transistor keying circuit by over driving with Ranger 2995 DX. And the tubes are down to 70 to 80 present. How? Can you buy a good Heathkit SB-220 for $500.00? that dose not look like crap. :shock:
King Mud duck. Buying something off of EBay is like taking a wild shot in the dark. If you find somebody with a good ratting you will pay more for the amplifier. That is if it is good and clean. All ebayers make the same statement that it works great and is like new. But will still have to sell As-Is. Yeh; right! :twisted:
I have been dealing with ebay sence it started and I have had no troubles. You do have to do your homework and read between the lines.

Buying tube amps on ebay can go well and then it can suck. I bought an sb-200 and the person who assured me that it would be packed very well threw it in a box full of peanuts and it arrived wasted. Case was crushed, chassis was bent, power supply board was busted from a direct blow. It was in immaculate condition when shipped but it arrived a fixer upper. I was lucky I got a little over half my money back. Straightened out the chassis, rebuilt the circuit board with epoxy and made new traces. I got 98% of the case straightened out and bought an excellent pair of new tubes.It's not the 9.5 out of 10 I bought but rather an 8 out of 10 that works like brand new.If you buy any amp with an internal transformer make absolute sure that they pull the tubes and box them seperate, pack the amp very tightly in foam and then pack that box into another with lots of foam packing. You have a much better chance of the amp arriving usable. Myself, if I ever buy another amp off ebay with an internal transformer, It will have to be picked up and simply not shipped. I paid 330 dollars for my amp, it's easily worth 300+ again but I have some serious hours making repairs and re-soldering every single connection in it. OH, yea.. 700 bucks for a absolute mint sb-220 is over priced. May 750 or so for an unopened unbuilt kit.Thanks for reading my story, Been a pissed off bird here lately!
