On 7-15-13 we went to bed with no problems what so ever and woke up to find my red bone coonhound who has been my best friend to have extreme bloat. I rushed her to the vet to find her stomach had flipped and would require extensive surgery and her % of survival was low. I did the hardest thing I think I have ever done and had to have her put to sleep. I am sitting here tearing up thinking about it. Those that say real men don't cry have no clue. I have been using this site to try to keep my mind off of her ever since. Here is her pic.

This is known in large breed dogs and I was told exercise after eating or drinking large amounts of water can cause it although it wasn't the case with Daphne.

Sorry to hear about your loss.....

People don't understand, unless they have owned a pet there self and something happens to it.... because pets can be as close to you as a family member as well...

Sorry to hear this Bam. My two little ones are like family too. My Lhasa has been with me for 14 years through divorce and other misc life crap and she has never once complained. :) Where else are you going to find that?

Bam, the most compassionate and humane thing you could was to put your beloved dog to sleep. We made the mistake (twice) of holding on to long. We were thinking more of ourselves rather than the animal. You did the right thing.
