Hey guys i have a question about installing a radio on my tranny hump in my f150. Do anybody have any idea where it is safe to drill on the hump? Could anybody tell me where i need to look out for wires and other things? Does anybody have any pictures of there setups on the tranny hump? Thank you for your help.

usually there is about an inch of space between the cab body and the tranny itself, but the best thing to do is just check for yourself.

get under the truck and slide underneath the tranny.

reach your hands up over the sides of the tranny and you will feel the space.

most likely you will be fine, just dont use too long a screw!

you also might find that one of these might save you some headaches:

good luck,

Cross your fingers before you drill, you'll be fine.

I've looked at vehicles in a junkyard. Did this with a Cherokee I owned. Helps when you have a cousin that owns a large junkyard a few miles away.

Sometimes, a service manual shows whats routed where.

Keep in mind it's a Ford F-150. They sell a lot of them to police departments. Lots of F-150's our there with lot's of equipment bolted to the tranny hump. You'll be fine on the tranny hump.

do not run the power for that radio to the fuse block.
you are asking for noise and computer problems.

run a 10 gauge wire right from the battery positive terminal to the radio.
fuse the wire just a few inches from the battery for fire safety.
(DO NOT OMIT THIS STEP!!!)

run the ground wire right to the vehicle body using the shortest length of wire you can. (under a foot is ideal, two feet is ok)

Thank you for this info.....also can I just run one wire from the battery and hook both wires into that one line?

Just an idea, this is how I have power and ground in my Nissan Armada. Power coming thru the firewall where the accelerator cable runs thru and terminating in a power distribution block. Ground runs to front seat bolt.
