Hi guys, I recently purchased a new Kenwood V71A, along with the RT Systems cable and software. I have the rig loaded up with local repeaters, but was wondering how you guys set up the 5 banks for ease of use? I thought it would be nice to set up the banks for the most frequently used repeaters for different areas that I travel to. Is this how you guys do it?

That's certainly one way you can do it. Maybe the frequencies you only listen to/monitor in another bank or two?

FWIW to you:

1st bank: Simplex freqs I'm interested in, especially on the road.

2nd bank: All local 2 meter rptrs.

3rd bank: All local 70 cm rptrs.

Still learning this stuff, but have since renamed many of the repeaters for the city they are in. Lots of them in the DFW area, so it can be confusing.

You never quit learning or thinking of 'better' ways of doing things. As your interests change you can rearrange things. The only really half way important thing is to save the current set up before changing it (if you use the software program). You can always go back to a previous set up and start over.

Yeah Doc, I have about 3 different versions saved so far. I plan on continuing to tighten it up as I go along, and like you say... my interests may change over time. So, the software makes it easy to fiddle with it. It's so nice to be able to program it quickly.
