got the 8 tube elkin.

Like an english sports car, more or less.

Sweet, high-performance when everything is right. Trouble is, most mechanics don't understand it and will usually make things worse if they play "pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey" with the thing. If you can find a mechanic to keep it on the road, it's a joy to drive. And when it breaks, you'll be better off to take it to someone who understands the thing.

Trouble is, that's the fella who made them. Ray Felts, somewhere in North Carolina. His phone number's gotta be in a dozen posts on the board's archives.

The internal design has evolved over the years, so even if you had ONE diagram, there's little chance it would be valid for your unit. Different tube types have been used in them, changing every couple of years. Gotta figure he'll buy a couple of years' worth of tubes, build boxes with those, and then buy a large load of whatever tube is cheap the next time around, again and again, like Bill Murray in Ground Hog Day.

"Elkin amplifier" is like "Ford Truck". What's under the hood depends on what year it was made.

Best advice is to remember, when it breaks, you have the pieces.

according to your other post the guy was wanting $400 for it. i hope you didnt pay anywhere close to that. if you did i hope you at least got a reach around...

Yes i paid $400.00 for it and in my defence it looks like it did when it was new, very clean inside and out.Its nothing major wrong witht the amp.One small little risistor was burnt and i also had him to replace one tube just to see if it would work,it does but now its all key with no swing so it at rays now.Someone got inside the thing turning crap that they should have left along and now its out of tune big time! But im sure that once its back from rays it will be purring like a big block chevy, and you know those things run forever!

KING MUDUCK IVE GOT A BUNCH OF THE ELKINS THERE GREAT BOXES. THE TUBES ARE CHEAP, BUT LIKE SAID EARLIER IN THE POST, RAYS THE ONLY ONE I LET FIX MINE. I JUST GOT MY TRAM D201 AND BROWNING MARKIV BACK FROM HIM AND THEY'RE SWEET HE BIULT A FREQUENCY COUNTER FOR MY TRAM. AND AS FAR AS THE PRICE HERE IN MONROE N.C. :D 8 TUBE CLUSTERS SELL ANY WHERE FROM 375 TO 450 DOLLARS DEPENDING ON THE CONDITION . IT DEPENDS YOU COULD HAVE SPENT 500.00 AND GOT A SB220 HEATHKIT BUT IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU WANT. ANY WAY THERE GREAT BOXES!!! :D BY THE WAY THE 8 TUBE CLUSTERS, NOT THE POTBELLY ELKINS, ARE GREAT MODULATORS THEY MAKE 800 WATTS SOUND LIKE 2000 WATTS VERY LOUD!!!

4 watts input. The amp should dead key 200 watts. Peak the tuning knob for maximum.
12DQ6 are 25 watts per tube in the 8 tuber. 8x25=200.

Very important to check the swr in the amp. This is done by putting a swr meter between the radio and amplifier. To set the swr locate the ceramic trimmer cap under the input coil. Tune it for min swr. Looks like a 304 capacitor. DO NOT turn the small shaft that is attached to the capacitor on the top. This is the neutralization cap and has to be set with an oscilloscope.
