I have a cb radio acquaintance that installed some sort of base load.(coil) to the base of his Imax 2000 antenna. If all is told correctly, There was no other mods. His signal doubled at my station on several different test and or conditions, Maybe 30 miles away as bird flies. He has no paper-work All I can find is a Siro that sounds sorta like it. Sure would appreciate any and all advice on such an item, if available...Thanks ...Jim

What does doubled the signal mean in real numbers JayBo, if he was hitting you with and S5 before he added the coil to the Imax?

Are you shure that your friend does not use a power amplifier????
In any case, the 5/8 verticals are very sensitive of the metallic part around the antenna, In fact, it can be coupled with his pole and change the angle of transmission and gain.
Usually the best performance of 5/8 are using pole of approx 5-6 meters with an RF-choke at the base of pole; using pole around 3,5m or 7m the situation become worst with main vertical lobe up to 30° and less gain!!!!

Yeh. double the signal means 1/2 to 1 s point depending on your meter. Any more that that and I would have to say he has done more than put a coil ( choke ?)at the base.

you are being messed with by your CB buddies.

kindly tell them to drink their own snake oil and tell you how it tastes.

i never tried it, but from what i understand it tastes exactly like bull sh*t.

can't help ya with the antenna issue, but i do have a bridge about 60 miles west of here i can let you have real cheap. it's in brooklyn ;)

RF choke been there done that lol. I am using one now and have seen others use one to help with swr problems increase there signal also. Keeps the coax from radiating back to the shack. so many ham antennas will tell you to wind one like the Ten 3 .
