Review, 100W Galaxy DX 94HP

I have a 98 vhp and it is rock solid on SSB.
I use the radio freq counter and an external and have never had issues. I have heard the earliest 98s drifted and contacted ray from galaxy.
He said these radios are tuned when they leave qa at the factory. When they get " set-up and super aligned " by less than knowledgeable techs, troubles arise.
My 44 has been trouble free for years and this led to my choice.

I got my DX94HP a week ago and I LOVE IT!! I had a 99V and sold it years back. Sure miss it so I got the 94HP. I think it stay on freq pretty good and the modulation from what I am being told is BOOMING. I have a D104M6B on it and have put a silver eagle, turner+2, galaxy desk echo and other mics to compare and people I talk to every day say when I key it cleans out thier recieve from 5 miles out easy. I talk to these people from 7 other radios I have to compare and they say this one has a great booming sound to it.
Ya do pay for what ya get so I forked up the $339.00 and got some real good quality!!

I hope you enjoy your Falcon. Still have mine....probably because it's in unsaleable condition - or wouldn't get near enough out of it due to the problems it has.

It is indeed a screaming talker. Big modulation and that 4 mosfet array really has the swing to its thing.

The internal fan in mine went out. Major fooking surgery to replace it. It is hopeless. So I have two muffin fans strapped to the bottom of it. Ugly but effective.

Also the Starlight face display lighting is making that high-pitched whining noise that they end up making and that is annoying. You can turn the whole display lighting off and that kills the noise. There's supposed to be a fix for this by adding a capacitor and I tried it but it had no effect.

The roger beep won't work when the radio is cold (winter temps). Rig has to be on and talking on it for a while to get warmed up before it starts working.

So besides these breakdowns the radio is okay. Don't think I'd spring these bucks for another one though.

I agree, the 94 & 98 have not been the radio's I had hoped they would be. That's just my opinion on this three year old thread brought back from the dead. lol

my 94 hp was issue free but i only used it as a base .loved that radio .all i ever done after conversion was to crank the modulation vr. that was it .it talked great .

miss ya ol friend

I've had one of these for a month or so. I just got it back from Don's CB Service. He just did a warranty alignment only.

It really quieted down. Seems very stable, been hammering away on 10 meters. Had an hour + ragchew with an old timer tonight, I didn't fidget with the clarifier at all.

I'm looking for an old beater pickup and will likely slap this in it when I find something.

Want to put a top gun modulator in my rci-2970 anyone know what resistor to remove?

I would say don't waste your time doing that. If you must I would start a new thread in the radio modifications section asking this question. When you highjack an old thread like this no one will see your question.
