Just picked up a Yaesu FT-840 today at a nice price.
It has little quirks that I can live with.
Can someone steer me in the way of hooking up my silver eagle to it.
The mod is good with the hand held, but I just don't like holding the mike as I am using the radio as a base station.
Thanks all! tracker.

Run mic gain on that FT-840 at 12 and just crack the gain VR on the bottom of the mic and that will mmake you sound like a movie star. I have a few of those FT-840 and that radio is one of the few that I found to work well with a D104 ;)

Yup, sounds good with my voice.
Can't go crazy with it but within the controls of the mike and radio, it works rather well so I am told by those that know to talk to me "face to face".
Just have to keep it down and not be drowned out by background noise that defeats the purpose!

On ebay you can find 4 pin Cobra to 8 pin Yaesu adapters.

8 Pin Yaesu Microphone to 4 Pin Cobra Gal Radio Adapter | eBay

Or if you want to wire up a plug it should be this - Your Silver Eagle should be 6 wires

1) NC
2) NC
3) NC
4) Black
5) NC
6) Red
7) Shield & Blue
8) White

Yellow NC

OK anybody who has a D104 mic and wants to connect it to a Yaesu Ft-840
Here are the connections if your D104 is the 4 wire model.....
1) NC
2) NC
3) NC
4) NC
5) NC
6) Red
7) Shield & Black
8) White

Your shield and White is your mic audio line and your Black (also shield) and Red operates the ptt switch

I have found that moving the Black wire from pin 4 to pin 5 fixed the strange problems.
No more lock ups all function buttons work as they should.
All other wires stay the same as first suggested.
I have a 6 wire Silver Eagle D-104 and a Yaesu FTdx5000MP.

I concur the amplifier adjustment on the bottom should be turned clockwise VERY LITTLE. Keep checking the ALC as you make the adjustment.
