Ideas for mounting a mobile rig in the shack?

Quite a few people hang them from the underside of a shelf. Getting an external speaker is a good idea as well.

Anyone have any interesting ideas about setting up mobile rigs on the desk?

utilizing the mobile bracket can be a big help in the shack if you have a desk
with an upper partition you can mount on the bottom of the top section . or you can mount on the surface itself .

you can even make a stand to sit on desk top elevated an inch or two so it can keep cool as well as create a bassier sound as the internal speaker sound reflects off the desk if you are not gonna use an external speaker .
try not to put it on or under any other radio equipment , to avoid heat or RFI .
also i like to run a ground wire from my mobile's chassis to ground. you can even add a screw to the back if it doesn't have one.

hope this helps

For got to mention using ip ties for neat wire work can not only look good but also makes life easier and safer.

Mobile radio shack mount

My shack "desk" is 2 wooden milk crates from Home Depot stacked on their side (apt. bedroom is my shack) sitting by my easy chair.

Picture a 1.5" to 2" PVC connector, a machine screw long enough to reach through connector, radio mobile mount, 2 fender washers sized to screw, slot of crate & nut.

Here's the order from the top of the assembly:
Screw pointed down/fender washer/mobile mount/connector/crate slot/fender washer/nut.

Tighten down securely, mount the radio & you have a very secure mounting that you can turn whatever direction you like.

Not using crates (no slots)? Drill holes where necessary.

Think about it a little. You are going to be the one who has to sit and stare at your radio, so mount it in such a way that it's 'easy'/pleasing to use. There's no 'standard' way of doing that, it's a matter of what you can do and what satisfies you.
I have several larger things on the desk as a sort of 'base' for other equipment. Luckily, a couple of those larger thingys are close enough to the same height, and tall enough, that setting radios on top of them get those radios to a sort of 'eye level' (or when tilted work just fine). Don't know about you, but a shelf to set things on, and provide space for paper etc, is also nice.
I can't honestly say that things will stay as they are at present. It's certainly changed a number of times (and sometimes even changed back). I'll never have all the room I wish I had, so 'making do' gets to be sort of 'normal'.
Oh well...

I would have a desk with a shelf fastened to it and use my mobile brackets to under sling the radios on the bottom of the shelves. I would probably use a small table or stool set beside the desk for the power supply to set on or on one of the shelves. Also I would have a laptop or the desk with flat screen monitor. My collection of mic's would be hung off the side of the shelf. Or go big and have a crew to command. :D
