Texas Star DX 500V

Ive ran 40-60 watts into a straight non variable DX500 and with a fan on heatsink and a 88 amp supply I have seen these do a bit more than the DX667 Ive never burnt up anything in any of mine and still have them along with a DX400.
Texas Star have always been a favorite of mine they hold up great and lightbulbs in the pushbuttons is all Ive ever had to replace. Now do I still run my Texas Stars like that no I have plenty of other amplifiers to deal with for my HF 100 watt rigs and even in those amplifiers I run 60 watts thats it.
I can only imagine how wide and out of band the Texas Star gets as far as splattering when running them hard Ill stay within 8-10 watts SSB input and Ill get 300 watts out and it leaves me feeling good because I know they are running clean which to me is most important I HAVE RAN MINE ON 10-12 METERS WITHOUT ANY ISSUES.
I know what mine will take and what the output result is and it would make DX 667 owners cry but I know and if Im running them lightly on input they should and have last damn near forever
The bigest trick or best advice I tell everyone when it comes to amplifiers put a fan on them KEEP THEM COOL.
I will also say that you should stay away from these variable models because that variable is a known and proven weak point when you start getting heavy on the input drive there is no give and that variable pot says KAPOOT!!
Im sure there is alot of people that will argue and debate what Ive just all said here but someone asked and Im being honest I have no reason to lie about what Ive done and seen. Im not telling you everyone should drive the p!$$ out of their Texas Stars because I dont know your setup ETC but I can tell you that what Ive read and asked about then tried myself absolutely amzed me and Iam heart set on these DX500 because the proof ewas in the pudding and these are some really nice tough built well amplifiers.

Need some more swing outa that 2950, i had that some thing with one that came from H@Y , they do nothing but put the chip in ..Sent it to Rolling Radios worked great .. Hope this helps ..

I have two Texas Star 500V's . On each one, I upgraded the power supply cables to 8 ga marine grade wire with a MAXI-BLADE fuse holder and a 50 amp MAXI fuse. I run one on a MFJ 75 amp power supply at 14 volts. The other is on a 150 amp X-Force power supply at 14.5 volts.
I need to point out that both 500's have had the transistors upgraded from the DEI's to the Toshiba's 2SC2879 transistors.
With a 4 watt dead key, each amp will dead key about 180~200 watts, on a BIRD meter. PEP will go up to 550 watts plus. 5 watt dead key will push PEP up to 600 watts plus.
Neither amp has ever blown the 50 amp MAXI Fuse. The MFJ power supply voltage drops to about 13.7 volts and keeps on giving the voltage. The X-Force will drop to about 14.3 volts.
I have raised the voltage on the X-Force up to 15.5 volts to the Texas Star 500 and put a dead key of 6~7 watts into it. It would dead key 300~325 watts and PEP of 700 watts.
And even at this, I have never had a 50 amp MAXI Fuse blow.
