CB Radio 1978

seeing that turner signalkicker being put on brought back some memories,, it was a better antenna for trunk mounted than the hustlers and antenna specialists, let it go with the car i had then (66 dodge dart) because the guy wanted the antenna too.. i had been into cb since 1974, started with steel whips but have tried others but ended up back to whips for performance..

That took me back a few years to my golden days of CB. I wonder what a video showing the state of CB as it exists today would be like.

Cool video!! The good ol days of CB radio! I still got a couple of those "SignalKicker" antennas out in my shed that my Dad let me have years ago too. Maybe I should Ebay em?!! LMAO
Slim.

Great film! Funny thing is that if a severe emergency took place today and the cell phone towers and landlines went out, CB would still be the only communication available for the average citizen! Ever try to find a pay phone nowadays?

Ever try to talk to someone more than a mile away when the skip is running 10 over 9? Years ago I wa returning from vacation in New England. long story short but there was a major fatal MVA in rural New Brunswick and the truck driver that hit the two cars could not get anywhere on his CB because of skip conditions. A couple cars left to go to a phone. I used my 2m HT to contact another operator who called 911 and remained on the air with me until EMS and police arrived.

I love nostalgia, so this was a cool vid to watch. I often look for radio equipment in old films and tv shows. There's a VH-1 special about Grand Funk Railroad, and a real quick shot of one of the band members sitting in front of a Siltronix 1011C with a D104. :D

Very good video clip. I was only 11 at the time but remember the cb craze very well. My dad had a blackcat amp back around that time. I wonder if they played that video as a trailer prior to Convoy on the big screen. It would have boosted sales immediately. Not to mention radio shack sales increase. I wish that some of the newer generation hams and CBer's too would have been around back then so they could understand the real meaning of the hobby as far as CB goes because it doesn't deserve some of the bad rap it gets.

Good point, but after the sun sets I can often reach CB operators 5 to 30 miles out via ground wave, especially when using sideband!

Agreed but by then people could be dead. ;) One other thing, in the event of a widespread emergency, emergency operations centers are very much more likely to have amateur radio on scene but not CB.
