I would like to buy something new for a change. Bad experiences with used equipment... Im intrested in the RCI-2950DX. Which rev. Is the best? What should I look out for?

Thanks.

The 2950DX is a good radio especially if you plan to get your Ham Lic in the future, the radio has both 10 (11)and 12 meters,FM repeater offsets, is stable and works well in the mobile.
Just buy it from a shop that is not going to hack anything in the radio.
Bells and DTB would be at the top of my list of dealers to buy from.

How clean is the output? If I wanted to drive an AL-811? I would have to use a driver, I have a class B single transistor amp that'd work fine.
Any comments on the receiver?

Thanks for the reply.

I had the green display 2950DX, and I was happy with it, did everything it needed to do.
The rx was fine for a mobile radio even tho some think it is a little hot....made lots of contacts with it.
The radio should make about 30 watts of drive on SSB and that should give you about 400 out of the 811 without stressing anything

For the money they are a good choice.

Great radio, if you want to sound average on the air with ok receive then buy from Crapper or H&Y. Convert it yourself and all the local people you talk to will probably not even notice you got a new radio.

If you want your 2950 to be the best it can be then buy from a shop that does good tech work. You will only sound as good as the tech is that tuned your radio. If you go this route you will get regular compliments on how good your radio sounds.

Ok, so you wouldn't recommend a driver for the al-811. Sounds perfect. What about the 2995DX is that the same radio in a base case with a PSU built in? Or what? Would I be better off with the 2950DX and a separate power supply?

I've got a new one for sale on Ebay, black background, had the Echip install, with an align, sure didn't need a tune matter of fact my Radio Guru turned it down a little, go check it out tucker4422 is my ebay ID.

Just ordered a 2950dx from Bells CB. Having them set it up also.
Copper is cheaper in price but the horror stories about there so called peak, align and tune is enough to buy from them for me. I have also heard Copper removes the E chip from the box so the radio can't be converted by the buyer if you don't pay them to do it.

true I would not want copper tuning a radio , but if you purchase a rci radio from them the echip will be in the box. maybe at one time they were doing that but not anymore

Good to know.
I have not dealt much with Copper in recent times. The last time I bought a radio from them I had to send it to Ranger for warranty repair at my expense due to the Tech at Copper screwing up the roger beep circuit in a Ranger N2 radio.
Copper would not accept a return for the radio and would not refund me the shipping cost to send it to Ranger for repair.
That was the last time I bought anything from them.

Can anyone comment on the Ranger supplied microphone?
I have heard it works decent by some and is much better than the old coffin style that Ranger used to supply with the 2950 series radio.

I wouldn't let Copper Tune a Piano yet alone a radio. Got mine dead stock from Ranger and worked great all I had to do was get my local guy to install the E-chip and all was well

I did when they had a deal a few weeks back, told them if it got here and was not sealed I would send it back, didn't want any golden screwdriver guy in a radio like that. Got here dead stock and worked great just needed the E-Chip install and actually turned down the power a little to give it a longer life
