outlaws on our 10 meter band

When I get my license I'm gonna work 6m a lot.

Who are you going to talk too? The band opens up whenever it wants too, sometimes weeks between openings, and in most places there is not much for local activity. I used to be on 6m a lot but we had a local repeater here which helped. I haven't heatd it in a couple years now. Not sure of it is off the air or there are no users.

Part of the problem would be eliminated if the mode sub-bands were eliminated. With the bottom 300 KHz restricted to CW and with the elimination of the code requirement there are a vast number of operators that are qualified to operate on 10m yet are not able to operate in the lower 300 KHz of the band except those that choose to learn CW. I have no such restrictions here and can operate SSB or AM or whatever right to the band edges allowing for transmitted bandwidth of course. USB on 28.001 is perfectly legal here. Some may bitch about the band plan etc but would they rather have interlopers on the band who don't give a damn about causing interference or a licensed operator that does?

Great post Garth.
We know that one of the reasons CW was dropped as a requirement is because is was determined that the mode was not as crucial to emergency communication situation`s anymore as more reliable technology`s jump ahead.
From the point of view in getting more guys on the band, I also think that setting aside a chunk of spectrum just for the one mode is no longer necessary.
Especially on 10 meters.
The "rules" do not flow very well with the everchanging face of Ham Radio.

10 meters is such a large chunk of spectrum why jam everything up in such a small section of the band?

I just mean when the band opens up in the summertime.

Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2

6 Meters can be a lot of fun during the season. Starting in May I listen more on 6. Generally for a few months there is a lot of activity.

Most newer HF radios include 6 meter coverage and it doesn't take much effort or cost to put up a 3 element yagi with a TV rotor.

For me winter time is HF contests and spring / early summer is 6 meter season.

Interesting to see the top line in your post. I worked VE1SKY on 80m AM Sunday mornings many times and Paul, N1RJX is working with another member here, VO1KS who is local to me as well, to get more activity on 6m and up using converted Larcan television transmitter modules. Paul has also been trying to convince me to0 put FN75vb on the air on Ms. I may give it a shot sometime when I get the antennas back up this summer. 6m with a kilowatt (from a Larcan module) and a six element yagi at 72 feet should work well.

I like listening on 10 meters, especially when I want to get away from the insanity of how 11 meters is blatantly abused nowadays. Keep CB'ers tx'ing confined to 11 meters.
