Ladies and Gents:

Alternate location for camping / jet skiing / fishing / swimming / motorcycle riding will be at Pismo Beach. Bring your sand toys, swim trunks, fishing gear and lots of bear with you.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but if you were planning on camping at the state beach - I just looked online and they have zero spots available for that weekend.

Pismo Beach Camping Spots:

Currently according to reserve America there are 999 spots for camp use and as of today there are 795 spots open. Place of camp is Oceano Dunes and they've indicated they are not going to be fully booked for that weekend but for July 4th weekend is already fully booked.

Ah, ok. Yeah my search was for Pismo State Beach, where all 174 campsites are taken up.

Oceano Dunes is the only California State Park

I might just have to hit this up, A lot more to do and sounds like a lot of fun! here a little info I had got off the website.

This 3,600 acre off road area is among the most popular and unique of California State Parks. The 5 ½ miles of beach open for vehicle use and the 1,500 acres of sand dunes available for off highway motor vehicle recreation are attractions for visitors from throughout the United States.


Oceano Dunes is the only California State Park where vehicles may be driven on the beach. Passenger cars can easily drive on the northern portion of the beach.

Four wheel drive vehicles are recommended for driving to the camping and off highway vehicle use areas in the park. Beach wheelchairs are available for loan at the Pier and Grand Avenue entrances to the beach.

Surfing, swimming, surf fishing, horseback riding and Off Roading

The recreation area is located in Oceano, three miles south of Pismo Beach off Highway 1.

Me and the wife have spent time camping at Oceano Dunes and always have a blast.
Be prepared for windy conditions, and it is a good idea to take some wooden stakes and some caution tape to stake out your camp area as the campsites are not defined.
It is a "pick your spot on the sand campground"
Bring a good portable air compressor/air tank so you can air down when you hit the sand, and air back up when to hit the street.
There are always a group of guys that are willing to charge you to air them back up, but I am a cheapskate :tongue: Bring your own firewood , yah they sell that at extravagant prices as well.

Hello Jeff:

Thanks you your picture posts, yeah its a awesome beach to play on. Only one in CommuFornia where you can drive your vehicle straight onto the beach and bring all your sand toys. Thanks for the reminder on high winds, will keep that in mind.
