Experiments with Russian "G" tubes.

On the Ruskies, a 24 burn in on filament only. Then apply HV. But at lower V, with just enough idle current to conduct. Then another 4-8 hrs. Then hope for the best.

Oh ok! So I could even do 1000W PEP and be well within reasonable operating parameters of the tube then. I wouldn't mind building something with a GS35B tube, and just run it about half throttle or something... let it loaf @ 1000W PEP or something. I suppose it would need a pretty complex grid bias circuit?

~Cheers~

I run one at 300 watt dk 1200 pep and it works great. Crusher did the work to modify a wizard built and it runs very good. 2300 volts. This is about all I need and 0 problems with neighbors.

The 6BQ5/EL84 twist

Along the same lines, some folks have old tube radios that use 6BQ5/EL84 power tubes. Russian 6P14P series power tubes have been marketed as equivalent or superior to the good American and western European 6BQ5/EL84types from years past. Be careful.

The end letter designations are crucial. The 6P14P-EV (rated 5000 hour service life) and the 6P14P-ER (rated 10,000 hour service life) are the more worthy ones. Other variants of this series of power tubes have been prone to failure or short service life.

Good luck.
