Anyone know anything about the BaoFeng *GT-3*

Looks like yet another "repackaging" of the same internals found in the UV-5R. If you find the housing nicer, go for it, the operation and performance is likely the same as the UV-5R. I bought the UV-5R because it had the extended battery available (and fit without any fiddling like the 5R+). If you haven't noticed, most of Baofeng's models are the same internals in different cases/colors.
Looks like it does have some internal hardware changes. I'm thinking about getting one, just because I like my UV-5R and Plus models so much.

The Baofeng V-82 is better and cheaper. Everything I have read is pointing to the GT-3 being just a repackage of the 5r.

In the video in the previous post, watch at 6:45, 8:45, and 9:30 and you will find the GTIII is a fairly dramatic upgrade from the 5R, not just a repackaged 5R.
There have been improvements since the video was mads as well. The GT-II 2014 I got today (2 of 'em) has a much better antenna that even the upgraded one in the video.
For me it's not a significant upgrade to justify the difference in cost. I can almost get two 5r's or B5 for the cost of one Gt.

The RX has surprised me how good it has performed.
The $70 USD pricing with ALL accessories...
I am happy with it...
Battery life is really surprising how long it runs in scan or dual watch.

Should have mentioned I just use software. Don't own a radio nor program one without.

Baofeng programming info
I'm a brand new Ham...actually a brand new Ham-interested non-Ham as I don't take my tests for Tech and General until Monday...and I got my GT-3's yesterday.
Everything I had read indicated manually programming them...and ALL Baofengs...was a real chore because 1. The keys were so small, and 2. You had to make a single change at the time, save it, and start over.
I got the programming cable when I got my GT-3's, and downloaded Chirp to use to program the radios. All I can say si "Smooth as silk". Programming frequencies, offsets, modes, tones, etc is easy (if only I knew which of each to use....LOL...I at least got the repeaters in my county for 2m and 70cm programmed just to see how easy it was) and programming functions like squelch and default volumes, Roger beep on/off, etc is a simple matter of choosing from a list if choices for each setting.
There is one thing you need to know. Some folks think the Chirp software will not work with the GT-3 because when you choose freom dropdown lists what manufacturer and model you are programming the GT-3 is not on the list. Don't worry about that.
The interface dropdowns for Chirp have not been updated...it is, after all, free, open source software...but if you choose the Baofeng 5R it will work just fine.

Yes Chirp is the way to go plus you can cross program radios. If you want to use the same programming on a Wouxun as you have on your Baofeng you can do that with Chirp, just upload it to the device.

You folks don't know how much I enjoyed writing that post, above.
Y'all have been a HUGE help to a newbie...guiding me in the right direction on how to get a good radio with a small budget, thoughts on a good homemade antenna that will do a good job, and encouragement on doing well on the test... As I said, a HUGE help!
It was nice to be able to write a post that contributed rather than just taking, taking, taking. Being able to give for a change was nice. Hopefully, over time, there will be a lot more giving and less taking.

Another tip ,DON'T use a machine with bloody Windows 8. 7, Vista, XP all work great but 8 is problematic.
