Anyone have their gallbladder out?

Uh-oh...sounds like appendix. THAT I have been there and done that.Even have the scar to prove it. Mine was out back in the day when they used to make a single long incision and you were off work for a while. A simple blood test should show highly elevated levels of white blood cells indicating the presence of infection. When I went into the hospital to be checked they did a blood test and when I asked if it was high the nurse simply said "Well let's put it this way. They are getting a bed all ready for you as we speak". I had mine out a couple months shy of my 16'th birthday. The doctor said it was the largest he had ever seen without rupturing. It broke while it was being removed. I lost about 20 pounds that week and a half. Back then I didn't have it to loose. Now however.............

How much pain were u in?

Before? Like a bad case of bad chile getting it`s revenge. Actually it bothered me on and off for several days getting worse each time. After surgery no pain to speak of except when I coughed or over exerted. About 6 or 7 weeks after surgery, when things should have been back to norma'l I was out fishing with a back-pack on and fell over backwards when the riverbank I was standing on gave way pulling my stomach muscles etc. That set me back for a couple weeks

Ok...thanks.

gall stones are calcium deposits in stone form in the gall bladder and those accumulate there and irritate the bladder to the point of becoming septic and then your die.

mine were pulverized via ultrasonic pulses and removed authoscopically.

When I was in Paramedic class, part of our training consisted of observation/participation in the hospital. We did rotations in the lab, ER, cardiopulmonary, OB and surgery.

On my surgery rotation, I got to observe an old dude getting his gallbladder removed. When the surgeon removed the GB, he kinda tossed it in the little metal bowl beside him. I remember hearing a loud clang and thinking, WTF. He then cut it open and showed me the stone. It was pretty damn big.

I think the stones can get bigger than golf balls. There is also something called porcelain gallbladder, and one image I saw looked just like that...

I had mine removed 5 years ago,.......... absolutely NO side effects except some weight gain.

In fact, after I woke up in the ICU after 7 hours on the operating table,.......... thats another story,.........

my surgeon, a world class surgeon that flew in from the Neatherlands just to do my surgery at Moffitt in Florida,.......

told me that "BTW, while I was in there, I also took out your gallbladder",
I asked "why?" and she just said, "it was in my way"

Why? What was wrong with it (really)?

had mine out 8 years ago and weight gain may be an issue but I found I lost 20 lbs. in the last 3 months by cutting out "almost'' LOL all sugar and haven't had a soda pop in as many months.

I also started taking a probiotic capsule daily and that seemed to regulate me and I feel about 20 years younger for that.

this is the product I used and I've tried several and this one is the best by far and if this link is a problem for the forum rules please feel free to remove it. thanks

Well, congrats, because it's damn near impossible to cut out sugar these days since the "food" companies stuff it in almost anything. Basically if it isn't a meat, fruit or vegetable, you can bet the farm it has processed sugar in it (or some artificial sweetener that has a whole set of other problems associated with it). (y)

For the last year or so I've been driving my wife bat[excrement] because I've been forcing her to actually read the labels and avoid certain things. And while she and I feel healthier for doing so, she still likes to needle me a bit for turning into an anti-chemical food Nazi.

Most likely what ever the original reason for surgery was it was most likely quite complicated hence the seven hours under the knife Road Squawker quoted. Since the gall bladder is not a vital organ and the doctor stated it was in the way of performing the more intricate surgery it was prudent to remove it. I know one person that had extreme abdominal surgery and had a perfectly good gall bladder removed for the same reason. It kept getting in the way of the surgeon.

Sure did years ago. I'm 29. Lived with the pain for 6 years than they finally found out some how lots of sand was inside my gullbladder, it literally looked like a sand bag exploded inside. Operation was easy 4 little holes in my belly. Worst part was waking up violently from the morphene (it does weird shit to me)
