Bullets For Thought...

I'd like to know what type of .45 ammo was used in the 1st story. Are police allowed to choose their own (like Federal JHP HyrdaShok) or is there a standard issue and use FMJ only?

I ponder due to hearing my buddy, who was a Deputy at the time, complain about only being able to use standard issue. They were issuing that white box Winchester FMJ (Plinking ammo basically) due to "Cost and humanitarian ethics". New sheriff is thankfully expanding that list with open testing and opinion and getting plinking ammo off the streets. Weird world, eh?

It is my understanding by talking with a few family and friends in law enforcement that most departments issue ammo that their officers are to carry on duty. How they select that ammo is not known by those I have spoken with. But I do know that officers are issued one specific weapon (Glock, S&W, Baretta, etc), but may choose another from an approved list at the officers own expense. Most officers usually carry whatever weapon and ammo they were issued on duty for off duty as well.

I typically carry what my opposition typically carries, so hopefully I can snag his ammo when he no longer can use it (should the issue ever come to pass)

we use the fmj for range days and as of right now issue the winchester ranger ammo for duty..we did issue the federal hydrashock for duty a couple of years ago or so, but have opted to switch to the winchester in it's place
