I have two radios one galaxy 88 on a power pack. The other RCI 2995dx (3 weeks old). Antenna is a new a-99. I noticed that the swr meter was not working in the 2995. Got out a brand new dosy tc4002pws hooked up to the 2995 an the swr was 2.1-1 with 2 watts on am 27.405 removed the coax an right in to the 88. Reset and the Swr 1.2 - 1 with 6 watts. anybody have an idea what might be going on here? They both seem to be recieveing ok. No dead short in coax. Puzzled here at this shack.

harmonics from one of the radios might give a false reading,,,,,,,,,,,, that is why i always use antenna anilyzer,,, mfj 259b.... that way a radio that puts out harmonics wont give a false reading....

Would this also mess with the non-working swr meter in the radio (2995dx) . I will see if I can locate one local to check it out. I have not had any issues with the galaxy in the pass. Thanks!

Yes it dead keys 2 watts swings about 45 on am. Loads of modulation just all at once it started acting up. Meter works on rf out so I am puzzled by the whole thing.

RFI/TVI, harmonics, what type coax and how long is the run? With the swing mod in place it may be causing the issue as well. The radio or watt meter may require a 4 watt carrier to work correctly. I do think like the others and say harmonics is the issue. You could try getting some good ferrite snap on chokes and place 10-20 at the feed point of the antenna or the back of the radio. It may help settle down some of the harmonics. Or get rid of the swing mod and have a true variable power place on it. Don't the 2995dx models have rf power control? Anyway hope you get it resolved. God bless.

That Dosy 4002 hs a antenna selector switch in it?
I have seen dosy antenna switches make an resonant reading off by as much as 80oKC. Remove the dosy and use another meter and vswr reads same as the mfj259B.

Using 110 foot of rg 213 coax by wireman cq 113pe. Which vr would you adjust to bring wattage up to four watts on the 2995dx?

Did you recalibrate the Dosy meter when you disconnected the 2995 and hooked up the 88?? The difference in output power between the two radios will change the calibration point, and result in an incorrect SWR reading.

A radio won't change the SWRs. SWR are set on the antenna and feed line if it is 1.6 on one radio on the same Frequency and 2.1 on another believe the lower reading. As power increases so do the SWRs. The Swing in a radio depending on how the Mod was preformed could be causing a Harmonic that is throwing off the SWR. This is easy to prove simply put a bone stock radio on the line and test it again. if the reading is lower then you know. If the harmonic is affecting the SWR you can bet that the radio won't sound good and is splattering as well.

Ok got a new radio shack meter, not what i would call the greatest but worked and they are the same. so much for $15o dollar meter vs $4o dollar one. this is a load off my mind. Thank you guys so much for all your help your too notch Now how about my swr meter in radio. Do I jack the out put power up to 4 watts (if possible)so that the meter my read it . It has got about 1 3/4 watts now dead key. if so what vr do I adjust. I had attached the service manual in one of the pervious post. The meter will move if I would modulate in it. but not on dead key. Any opinion?
