Mine is very simple and it is the MFJ-844. Looks just like the Diamond SX-27P that Capt. Kilowatt posted a link to. I'd use it mobile... otherwise I'd prefer the models you are looking at.

So after talking to a friend, I have decide to go with either the Yeasu 8800R or the Kenwood TM-V71A. Reading reviews on EHAM that they are practically the same radio with just about the same functions as in full duplex and cross band repeater. I just have to decide which one.

I like the front speaker on the Kenwood but I like the squelch control on the Yaesu.
Your opinions are welcome.
Decisions Decisions.
I have the 281a on order. I've had a few Icom's, and a Yaesu so I'm thinking time for a Kenwood.

I have used both radios and prefer the Kenwood. The crossband repeat on the TM-V71a is really good if you ever want to use your rig as a remote base. The Yaesu's crossband repeat squelch tail is annoying. They're both good radios, though.

So go with the kenwood TM-v71a or would it be better to go with 2m only like the kenwood 281a or the Yeasu 2900 and how often is the 70cm band used on a dual band rig?

Personally I like being able to walk around my house with an HT on 440, talking through the crossbander to the locals on 2m at full power. If you don't think you have a use for that or if there are no 440 repeaters in the area, just get the single band radio.
