I have a extream 2018 mic the talkback don't turn all the way off when I turn the mic gain up it starts to feed back thru the speaker I use my road devil on it I can put the gain any where I want to put it oh it is on a grant xl thank you very much

I would say that you are over driving the radio with the 2018. If you need that mic cranked up, I would say you have other problems with you setup.

i use my D-104 with no trouble at all as well as my road devil wide open the extream mic has a talk back control that does not turn all the way off just wanted to know if there is a mod. or a resis. change to stop it from happening

I suppose you could put a small switch inline with the variable resistor pot for the talkback volume. I looked and can't seem to find a schematic for the mic.

I rarely use an amplified mic but when I do I have never had to turn it "wide open" ... or even ½ open. I think Binrat is on the right track thinking there are other issues.

the only reason I turned them wide open was to see if I could get it to feed back like the 2018 was I run the gain at 9 oclock most of the time & the mic just were it turns on the amp in the mic.

For reference,my 2018 Xtreme is backed off one 1/4 turn from full, the mic gain on my Grant XL is at 12:00. I had to back the gain waaaaay down on the Xtreme to be able to turn up the mic gain on the radio to 3:00 and am don't remember if I was ever able to open fully.
- this was with the TB turned all the way down, with and without headphones.

An adjustment pot for talkback on the 2018 and one for mic gain control. A small screwdriver is what it takes to adjust those two. But again, radios like my 428 is wired where the talkback stays on no matter how you crank back on the 2018's talkback pot.

I have an Turbo Extreme 2018 mic for about 3 years now. I use it on Galaxy 95T. I usually keep the radio mic gain at 11 oclock-1 oclock. Ive never touched the internal mic gain on the mic itself. The radio will squeal if I turn the mic gain on the radio past 2 or 3 oclock, But the squeal or feedback will go away the further the mic is from the radio, but the audio starts to sound overdriven or crunchy a little. Also if the talkback on the radio is off or turned way down I can turn up the gain a little bit more. I always get great reports and people ask what mic im using pretty frequently. I don't like how the mic sounds when both dials are at zero. It sounds like a robot/ electronic sound, not clean to me so I usually keep the knobs at about 2 and 2.
My 2 cents

I gave my 2018 to my bro some while back. He'll use it on his Cobra 2000 sometimes but the audio sounds ugly at times because whoever he bought the radio from did the normal 'cut the audio wide open' mods. Now he knows better and uses a Astatic Road Devil which is hard to beat for amplified, clear audio quality.
Options.

I have both the 2018 and the Road Devil and several of my friends have both also. The 2018 when set properly blows away the Road Devils in clarity and audio volume. Also the D104M6B

has better clarity than the Road Devil but for my 959DX "mobile" I am sticking with the Road Devil even though the switch needs cleaning every other day lol.

I don't talk much on my 959 that I use as a base station but I spray cleaned and lubed my RD's a year ago with Rat Shack cleaner and lube. I haven't had to clean them since. I tend to use my CRE8900 with a RD most of my time in my mobile. Just made a contact in my mobile with Wyoming on 38 LSB .
What are you using for cleaning your RD?

P.S. I'm getting a good signal on 28.465 USB. Real steady signal.

I cleaned my D104M6b the other day with a standard electronics cleaner and then took a chance on a spray lubricant "silicone" which seems to dry up with in a few seconds and it has worked very good so far. The D104M6B was scratchy right out of the box and got real bad fast. I will be doing this same procedure with the Road Devil soon. Since they are both Astatic mics I should get the same results hopefully!
