I'm interested in vintage C.B. radios from the 70's into the 80's , both the 23 and 40 channel . I know some of the good radios from back in the day like Browning , Johnson , Cobra , President/Uniden , Pace , Pierce Simpson , and so on ... What I was wondering is if anyone has any suggestions as to other good radios from back in that time period because I'm looking to pick up a few here and there for a collection . I will be using what I get , not constantly , but enough that they do need to be mechanically lasting as well as a good looking radio . Solid State and newer is prefered but although Sideband is a plus it's not a requirement . Thanks in advance to anyone that can give me some advice .

Hey Coon !! Now your talking dude !! Old School CB Radios !! There is one that wasn't mentioned , MIDLAND ! but yet many that were mentioned all had the same boards in them (-: IM really not sure if it was Midland that had there own boards or they were made by someone else for them ? but many of there boards were in Peirce Simpsons, GE's , Bomans , Roybins , Pace ,Sears,Penny's,ect.ect. type radios (kind of like Uniden boards in Realistic radios) .back in the 70s and early 80s ole Radio Shack had some fine Uniden Base and mobile style radios with the Realistic name on them !! But back to the Midlands for a minute , 1977 to mid 80s they had some dandy radios !! AM and SSB styles !! all carring the 02A PLL chip that could be easily modified for more channels , my personal experiance with those radios ,usually starting with a 77- (they changed from 13- in 1977 when CB went to 40 channels and no more licensing was requirered) all had a "great receive" on them as well ....good clean audio on them as well , never would see big numbers off of them but they would tune up very nicely and or run a amplifer very nice as well. http://www.apostolicfaithtabernacleatpearcy.com/ebay/1-06/1-17/CB12006-01-17.JPG .....I personally love the older radios of yesteryears ......those midlands were made well !! like tanks !! and 9 times out of 10 of those usually will work and preform as good as they diid some 30 years ago ,even the 23 channel ones !! I'd say someone did something right !! We could talk old cb radios all day long !! I use a 1983 Cobra 25 LTD ....before that a GTL model ....great receive and noise blankers in those !! .....IM always hearing about how good the noise blankers are in older 148s/Grant XL-LTs .....well that surely depends on what your up against ? ....as far as my car is concerned , those older 25s totally do the job much better for me then those radios. Different strokes for different folks. But I must admit ,as well as some of the older radios received and transmitted , they really didn't have the best of noise blankers concerning motor vehicals )-: but made for much better base station use. A total draw back for me , my all time favorite AM only radio was a Realistic TRC-427 http://i11.ebayimg.com/02/i/05/f7/91/d6_1.JPG this radio screamed !! and drove the snot out of a amp , but the noise blankers sucked !! but it surely made for a better base unit . I suppose in many cases ,it just would depend on ones vehical in question ? .....the 427 was basically the same as the older 25gtl and both made by Uniden but for some reason or other ? the Cobra models just seemed to have better anl/nbs ? Oh ....that was surely one hell of a Uniden AM only board ,they still seem to use the same variation of that board some 30 years later in the 25's / 66s/ 68s / and then some.Triva anyone ? Who has made more cb radios to date then anyone else in the business ? If you guessed Midland ,you guessed right. Woody's CB Radio Museum

Like the Midlands and Sears Road Talkers that Switch Kit mentioned and the Robyns , Colts , and Teaberrys . I'd really like to thank you all for what you've mentioned so far ... I will be keeping an eye out for these radios , if I buy any I'll be sure to post about them and let you know how they're running . :D Any others that might have been missed ?

Hi Raccoon,

Here are a few others, HyGain, JC Penny and Craig to add to the list.

As Switch Kit mentioned, it is hard to beat some of those old radios of the past. My current collection of radios are all from the 60's & 70's, with a few exceptions.

You can view them here GRUMPY'S OLDE TIME RADIO ROOM

These pictures were taken early last year, and has grown since that time. I will be posting some new pictures in a few weeks!

Good luck on your search for some of the old classics ;)

What is the differance between the Regency Imperial I and II ?
Also were these the Regency's with double sideband?
