I have a GE Super base model 3-5875a when I key up no power output for about ten seconds then it will have power out put for 20-30 seconds and then go back to no output. When I put it into sideband mode I get no output at all. This is a very nice looking radio no real techs in my area. Any ideas. Thanks Jimbo

Jimbo 165, Sounds like a thermally intermittent component. Probably a transistor or IC, I

would get a can of 'freeze spray', open up the radio, so I could see the circuit board

(from the top) and begin around the driver/final area and spray one component at a time,

quickly and see if that one sprayed component makes it start transmitting again, if it

does wait until it quits again and spray it again, to verify it bad, replace it and enjoy your

radio again. I had one of those units many years ago and enjoyed operating it alot. Good

luck locating the bad component. I forgot, make a shield from a small piece of paper to

avoid overspraying on several components at once, in other words try to isolate your

spraying to one component at a time. Let us know how you do.

Thanks Radioman for the info I believe I will put it on the shelf until I learn more trying everyday. I may part it out also everything looks good and works except for above problem. I thought maybe someone could steer me to final or cap that could be causing it because they may have had same problem. Thanks Jimbo

Every one of the Cybernet double-board rigs I've owned ( like your Super Base) had problems with the board-to-board connectors. Fractured solder joints on the connector pins, and dirty contacts are the two main problems. I would look the boards over carefully for solder fractures first, and if you can't find anything, take them apart (carefully), clean the contact pins and reassemble.

I hate to do it also space cowboy but we have no techs close and the others will charge more than radios worth. I have quite a collection of old radios on shelf waiting to get fixed. I am still learning and sometimes pull one off and fix it after getting help here or other forums. Thanks Jimbo
