Hi, Im about to go for one or the other I will use 10 and 11 meters, I was about to get the Galaxy but started reading about the Stryker and now Im not too sure. Ill be using ssb on 10 meters and am on 11. I think the Stryker will have to be modified to get 11 meters but the Galaxy already has it. I would appreciate any info anyone could give me on these. Thanks Lou

Go with the Stryker, that radio is much more stable on SSB than the Galaxy. The Galaxy radios drift all over when they warm up, and you'd have to chase the person you're talking to until the radio is fully warmed up. Both have similar output. Just my .02 worth. :)

~Cheers~

Both radios would need conversion to operate on 11 meters. I really didn't see any info on whether the 99V2 uses the same method of conversion as the older 99V units.

I do not own the newer version two of the 99V but can directly compare the 955 to the 99V. I definitely like the classic looks of the Galaxy radios, but run the 955 more often...

955 Pros: More stable on SSB, wider audio bandwidth (more "HiFi like" sounding) PC programmable, if your into that kind of stuff. 6 digit freq counter, volt meter, scanning.

99V Pros: Classic Galaxy looks, Classic Galaxy sound ( a bit on the high tone side but perceived as louder on AM sometimes)

If you want to have a Galaxy for the looks, go with a used DX95T if you can find one for about the same money as a new 99V2. They have 6 digit counter and a bit more power ;)

Hey Big Dog
For my 2 cents worth, on this side of the pond - UK The Stryker appears for resale on flea bay here regularly at an alarming rate; maybe coincidence but 3 have come up for resale in the last 2/3 weeks. The Galaxy v2 on the other hand has had terrific reviews on utube and other forums, I guess pays your money and take your choice at the end of the day, but keep digging and taking referrals from other posters - Good luck.

Stay away from the 99v2 especially if you live in colder than normal winter environments. I had a brand new 99v2 and it was garbage. Not knocking all of them just the one I had. They work fine above 30 degrees but under that roger beep fouls up. Modulation lamp comes on when you're not talking at least until the radio warms up then it finally goes off. Usually about 10-15 minutes. Also the built in meter has issues too in cold weather. Not saying they all do it but mine did. There's those that will say cold weather affects all electronics but that's not all true. The galaxy is the only radio that I ever had that cold weather affected it. All my others do fine. With that said.... There may be 9 more 99v2 owners that have had no issues at all but one time was enough for me.

if you want the best between the 99v2 or the Stryker the Stryker is much better on SSB and has a lot of other fun features and will get you compliments even on 10 meters. but I do suggest check out two other options the Galaxy 95T of course you will have to buy a used one and hope it hasn't been hacked by a radio pervert but a very nice radio and also check out the RCI 2970N2. I have all of the above with my 95T being my favorite. but between the Stryker or Galaxy 99V2 Stryker wins that hands down.

I was sold on the Stryker but I don't think it will fit in my truck ,too long, so I was seriously considering the GalaxyDX95T but the compartment where it would be mounted doesn't have much room for air circulation and also I wouldn't be permitted to run heavy gauge wire to the battery (company truck). So now Im back to the 99v2,I have one of the old dx99vs but with the side mic the cable kept getting damaged. So now Im still looking for suggestions, thanks everyone.

Me personally I wouldn't use either one on 10 meters assuming you are an licensed amateur radio operator.

Those are more for the CB crowd and most if not all of those glorified CB's drift on SSB. Those radio's are really designed for big AM modulation and may have SSB and FM and even CW to pass themselves off as amateur radio's.

I would agree with Radioreddz suggestion and look at the RCI 2950 or 2970 models for SSB use. These radio's are legitimate amateur radios and work well on SSB with very little drift if any at all once the radio warms up and stabilizes.

They aren't legitimate amateur radios at all. They're CBs dressed up as amateur radios to get around regulations. Legitimate amateur radios don't come with roger beeps and they come with proper VFO tuning.
