3 ELEMENT CUBICAL QUAD HOME BREW !

I also notice your balun is at the bottom of the downward support element, where I think it belongs, but it is sets very close to the rotor.

1. how do you keep these two from the wind blowing the balum box into the rotor with the mast and element so close together?

2. I can't quite make out how this is setup in the image. Since the balun is attached to the antenna how do you deal with the coax coming out the bottom where it goes down the mast...when you rotate the antenna?

I usually use a large loop of coax going around the rotor in the proper direction so it does not bind up on turning, but I don't see it in the image.

Just curious.

CurlyJo are you on the air? I just talked to a guy (2995 maritime) out in his boat in the SF bay. Is Texas in your radio? I'm on 27.385.

Congrats on the great job.Quads rock. Like said earlier dialing it in is the secret If you have an acceptable front to back leave it .Like most 3 element beams it's relatively easy to get the gain but a bit harder to get high f to b. A 3 el will match 50ohm depending on spacing etc. FYI the term cubicle quad refers to the 2 el quad. not a 3 a 2 looks like a cube hence the name...
Sorry about that, it something like people saying swar instead of swr. it niggles me.Just me being anal .

Does the Comtek 1 x 1 balum noted below also tune the mismatch that a 3 element Quad shows at the feed point?

I thought a yagi or a quad with a low feed point impedance match needed some matching device like a gamma match, or beta match, and a 1 x 1 balun simply balanced the unbalanced coax to the balance radiator element?

I went the easy way with the Comtek from DX Eng. for the simplicity. Matched perfectly as soon as I hooked up the coax. No useing 75 ohm matching coax. Followed the derections to a T from 11 meter Quad plans from the net. I threw some money into this Quad and made it to last. 73's

Just used the balum. Has no stress issues on the fiber glass rod. I use ferrite chokes on the coax right at te matching balum. I added after I took the pics.

Thanks! I will need assistance in pulling that off. Would like to get it dailed in to be all it can be. Had to build and install by myself. Surprised I pulled it off. Have been told by a couple locals that it seems to derect signals. From California I can be pointed East in the mornings and afternoons and pick up anything out there. Later when I hear the skip starts to fade I flip it around and pick up Hawaii and Australia. You can actually hear them come in as the antenna turns around. As I said earlier that I got lucky with a good match from the start. Elements are spaced five feet apart. Feed line matched with a 50 ohm current balum from DX Engineering. You can see a three minute clip of it on YouTube. Look under cubical quad antenna. It's paired with a Vector 4k style antenna in the back ground. Thanks for your input ! 73's
Curious, what part of Cali?

I wonder if he had a longer Mast pipe going through the boom to Mast clamp on his quad if he could put a vertical directly above it?
Maybe something similar to a vertical above a horizontal yagi?
