Who to buy from online?

I am in the process of selecting a SSB base station. So far I like the Ranger TR696F.

Any recommendations on who to buy it from online? I've looked at Copper, GIJoe, Durham, and Clay's radio shop.

Price is out of whack on some and not all offer peak and tune services etc.

Any other recommendations on the radio would be appreciated as well.

Specifically if there is any other work I should be lookingto have done before they ship it and if I should reconsider getting an export radio.

The export radios seemed overpriced to just use for CB. Seems like If I needed more punch an amp would make more sense and be cheaper if one never intended to use the 10 and 12m bands anyway.

one of those "open up a can of worm questions" Copper is good. Dand J is also good. I've done a lot of business with Dan over the years and after a while he has even cut me a few discounts here and there. Copper has been in business for a long time and I personally never had any problems with them either. Rick over at Pacific is a pretty good guy as well. Pacific CB

Only Place I have purchased online anytime recent has been Premiere Electronics. But I don't think I would hesitate to purchase from Pacific CB or The Quack Shack.

Durham Radio is a good place if your in Canada-- Radio World is another good Canadian shop--I would'nt use either one if your in the US though-- lots of other cheaper shops down on your side of the line-- especially since the exchange rate being what it is this month its not really a big advantage since your not getting much more Can. per US dollor-- Canadian dollor has come up alot--that and our prices are much higher makes it not really worth while

Ordered from Premiere - but not for base - had to replace my mobile.

Got their mega tune . . . . .hope they don't butcher it.

If its not to much trouble, when you get the radio, snap a couple photos, as close-up as you can and still be focused, so we can see if they do some of the clip-and-chop stuff. Of course, if they use seals on the radio, you don't want to open it and void their warranty.

Description of their mega tune from the website: http://www.premiere-electronics.net/questions.shtml#2

"Our Mega Tune is designed to provide you with loud booming audio while still maintaining a clean and clear signal. If you looking to sound raspy or bleed over many channels this defiantly isn't the modification for you. Our techs have worked very hard to perfect this modification. The mega tune will not void any factory warranties, it will not damage your radio and it will not make your radio run warmer than normal. We also do not remove or disable any part of the AMC or ALC circuit. We do upgrade various parts of the audio circuit with higher wattage or better quality parts. We also do a few other modifications that make the radios wave form, when viewed on an oscilloscope more linear. This means of course you will sound as loud as possible while still maintaining maximum clarity. If you are looking for maximum performance from your radio we recommend you have us perform this modification. We also completely warranty all work performed by our service department. The mega tune will also increase your peak power. Dual final radios after being mega tuned typically put out over 40 watts and single final radios typically put out over 30 watts."

Good luck with Premire-Electronics. I ordered a Wilson 1000 mag mount antenna 2 weeks ago. I have not heard anything from them. I've tried email, the 1-888 ordering number, the inside line 320-230-0794 and noone answers.

I'm giving serious thought to ordering from someone else, but I can't even get ahold of them to cancel the current order. :?

Greg,

I went ahead and cancelled your order. We apologize for the inconvenience! There was a mix up with the shipping and we take full responsibility for the error.

Thank you and sorry for the delay!

Now that impresses me. I like a company that steps up to the plate and takes responsibility when its theirs to take and doesn't try to make alot of excuses. I especially like that they're willing to publicly acknowledge the problem and take care of it.
