Hi All
I know there are going to be varied opinions but which is/are the best book/books to study for my novice license . While you are at it, throw in those Tech and higher opinions as well. I have been listening on 10m and playing with my new toy but not transmitting. I have a long way to go. Fun stuff
Thanks, as always, for your help

Plenty of free practice tests available online, if you have an android device on the "app store" is good one with hundreds of questions and tests for all three classes.

I know it's not a book recommendation, but I hope it's helpful.

There are a bunch of apps as well that are free on either the Apple or Android phones. As well as the sites mentioned above.

Try a practice test on eham.com. If you can't pass it read through one of the Gorden West books. You will learn some but they are mainly designed to help you memorize the questions and answers.

Gordon West has books for tech, general and extra. Basically it is just a long list of all the questions and answers with some tips to help you remember them. Some people have a problem with that but others just like to see new people keeping the hobby alive. Good luck.

Gordon West W5YI books are the most commonly used around here.
It is also good to learn what the answers to the questions mean. You might also check out the ARRL library and look at the handbook and operators guide. Not necessary to pass the test, but will help you be a better operator.

Hamtest online is a very good study program. You get the first 50 questions for free then if your satisfied with what you see you just pay around $25.00 for the entire question pool. It drills the questions in your head. The questions that you appear to have problems with it will ask over and over until you finally learn them. It's better than any book because it forces you to learn the material and it's a enjoyable learning experience. It's with the money. Give it a try.

I've studied the test preps and have no problem passing the practice tests for tech and general but I would like to find a book or books that covers the material without "teaching the test". Any recommendations for a good all around HAM knowledge book that doesn't mention any of the test questions?

The latest edition of the ARRL handbook is one to look at.

They have other ARRL books just for antennas and other aspects of the hobby too. These can be found at most online radio dealers like Ham radio outlet, DX Engineering, etc. Even Amazon sells them.

Good luck passing your tests and let us know when you do!
