Hello, all. I know this was in the forums almost 10 years ago at this point and nothing ever came of it. I am looking for information on this Superstar SS-3000HP radio I have. I rescued this rig from the junk pile and got it back to *almost* working condition. I have the receive working relatively well, <.5uv, but the transmit is +5 khz off. I am at a loss. I have absolutely nothing to go on with this board (EPT300010A). It seems that it may have only been used in this radio, a CRT Ulysse Turbo and possibly the Connex Coyote/Deer hunter radios. I am not even too sure about the value of one of the crystals, it may or may not be my problem. Anyway, just to clear this up ahead of time, I am not a radio "tech". I like to fix things as a hobby. I like ham and cb radio and enjoy rescuing scrapped radios. This radio is very unique, so I could not resist. It was literally in pieces when I got it and missing parts. I am so close to having it work properly that I just cannot give it up, but I seem to be lacking the knowledge required to troubleshoot this. I have attached 3 pics of the radio in case anyone is curious. Thanks in advance for any help offered. IMG_0110.JPG IMG_0111.JPG IMG_0112.JPG

take a look at this schematic and see if it matches up with your radio. it is one of the 1st superstar radios. could not find a marking on it.

also is the radio receiving on freq and only goes off when you key it up? if so look at the TX transister to make sure it is good. should be around TR30,31,32,33,or 34.. I have had a tx trans bad and when you would key the radio it would go off by as much as 10 kc.

Well, thank you for the schematic. Unfortunately, I have the radio at work and I am home now, so I will have to take a look tomorrow. The radio is definitely receiving on frequency. It actually receives pretty decently for an export. But, yes, when I key up I am 5 khz too high on all bands. I went through to the best of my ability and set everything that I could figure out, pll voltage, 10.240mhz adjustment, fm deviation etc..., but this TX thing is just beyond me. I will take a look at some of the transistors. If the schematic isn't correct it might be a hard search, but I appreciate the direction. I would not have even thought of that. I do have another one of these radios in unsalvageable condition, so if I do find a bad transistor I may have a replacement at least. Thanks again, and if you think of anything else I am open to all suggestions, I would REALLY like to get this rig talking.

UPDATE: I have looked at the schematic and compared it to the radio. There are definitely many similarities. I am not sure if it is exactly the same, but close. Also, I replaced TR-30, 32 and 33 and saw no difference whatsoever. I am still 5khz off on transmit.

I was just hoping maybe there were some more ideas on what this issue could be. I went through the RX again and it works great and on frequency. I even ran through the transmit cans and I get a great output 2w dk on low swing to 10 and 5.5w dk on hi swing to 25. Also, the best part about this radio is the audio section. It has separate pots for modulation on low power and mod on hi power. The modulation I got to a nice clean 100% with no clipping. So...the only problem is still the +5khz on tx. All things considered, I never even thought I'd get this far with the radio considering where it started, but I would really like to get her working properly. I'd appreciate anymore insights. Thanks so much in advance!

if you look at the lower portion of the schematic just past center you will part of the tX section with tr 34,35,36 and 37 and the parts there. check those trans and associated parts to make sure they are working. if the radio is hanging in part of the RX and not going all the way into TX mode can cause the radio to go off freq as much as 10kc. if none of those parts are showing bad I am at a loss also. as old as the radio you could have an electrolytic cap in those sections stating to go bad.

Many of these AM/FM radios also share a similar board and schematic with radios that also have SSB. While not the same, the dissimilarities can be overlooked to some degree and can be used. Think that is sonoma's point and should be considered.

I checked all of the transistors, and they were all fine. I replaced some elctrolytics with new ones, but the ones I replaced all tested fine anyway. I did find one thing, which to someone with more knowledge may mean something. I think I found where the extra 5k is coming from. The PLL mixer oscillator at TP3 I am thinking should be 16.270mhz. Well, I am at 16.275 mhz. I can adjust down to maybe 16.2739 or so. I am not well versed enough in that section of the radio to figure out what would be causing that. I tried to follow the schematic to see where it may be going wrong, but no luck. I am thinking that if I get that down to 16.270 my problem may be solved. Any ideas?

Hello I have a old school 2950 receives great on all modes and transmits great on AM but no transmit on SSB. Does anyone have any idea?
