Amperex

See were Amperex out performs and could be pushed 1000 watts per tube, but is it worth it for almost $400 a tube?

And what makes it better than another 3-500z?

I thought you were not interested in pushing an amp beyond the 1500 watt legal limit so what difference does it make? I always had good luck with Amperex 807's and 833C's but that was 20 years ago or more.

I'm not I just was reading on it and wondering how one version can do this and the other that.

i'm using the RF parts own brand 3-500ZG and i' m more interested as keeping it working for the next 25 years.
Completely refurbished the old Heathkit SB-1000, and put the new tube in replacing the Eimac 3-500Z after 25 years.

The last 100 watts isn't making the difference, nobody can notice the difference beteen 800 or 900 watts.
The difference of 100 to 800 DOES make the difference.
Going to 1500 watts needs an investment i'm not willing to make for the last 3 dB difference, better spend on antenna's
