Is there one available that isn't a piece of crap? I remember Solarcon made a serious heavy duty one several years ago but I have not been able to locate one.
The Solarcon HWM-1 was hard to beat but like all good things seem to be.... DISCONTINUED.

Back in the 90's had one that lasted several years, even with my homemade coil antenna. I can't remember to save my life what name it was. Haven't seen any that style in the last 10 years that's worth a crap though. They all seem to break out within a couple months.

I personally don't care for gumdrop mounts, I use this for my mobile screwdriver antenna that weighs in nearly 2lbs and no issues running 3200 miles a week in a semi truck.

Do a Google search, I found one cheaper on Amazon.

The best "gum drop" mount I found was sold by C C Distributors, Corona CA. It was made from molded epoxy, rather than injection molded plastic and is pretty much bullet-proof. The ones I have are light gray in color. I ran some pretty heavy antenna setups on my mobile, and never had one fail. They came in plain white boxes, so I have no idea who made them. I heard that C C's owner, John, passed away and I don't know if they are still in business. Check ALIEXPRESS, I found them advertised on ALIBABA

Breedlove may be expensive but you only buy them once. With the gumdrops available in the UK using them with my Little Tarheel they'd last about 4-6 months before I started getting issues. This is because these type of mounts rely on a brass press fitting pressed into the threaded section to provide a connection to the centre pin of the antenna socket and a lateral load from an antenna causes that press fitting to become loose resulting in an intermittent connection. A Breedlove mount costs several times what it costs for a decent gumdrop here however the Breedlove mount will effectively last forever so after 3/4 years its cost no more than buying cheap mounts and having to replace them.
