SWR Meter Poll

Got mine for free. I had planned on using it in the car with the screwdriver but the response rate of the meter was too slow to catch the dip. In the shack the meter is fine.
If you're in the market for a nice meter for mobile use, the Palstar PM2000AM is one to look at. Aside from the convienence of the remote sensor, the needle movement on peak mode is fast enough for tuning without having to switch to average mode. The only thing that would make this better is it had a 30 watt power scale. It has 300 and 3000. I usually tune with 20 watts so it's still useful for mobile tuning.

The Ameritron I mentioned above has a 100 and 1000 watt scale so it's better for lower wattage tuning and has a nice smaller footprint than the Palstar. The needle movement is slow on peak mode so it needs to be on average for tuning.

Just thought I'd mention that to you.

I run a meter inline all the time. I have two Daiwa CN801 type meters. One is a CN801HP and the other is the CN801HP3. Both are good from 1.8-200 MHz. The HP is good for 2000 watts and the HP3 is good for 3000 watts. I bought the HP3 to use on my eventual 6m amp which will run 1200 watts. I also have a Diamond SX-1000 that is good for 200 watts and is good basically from DC to daylight. LOL Actually it has two sensors to cover the range from 1.6 MHz to 1.3 GHz. I keep it inline with my 2m radio.

Am curious.

1. Do you use an external SWR meter in your shack?

2. If you do, do you keep it in-line most of the time?

3. What make and model do you use?

Thanks!
Jim
I use the MFJ-941e tuner with built in meter on permanent install for HF base rig.. Just check tune with AM signal does up to 300w

I have a cheap $20 Workman CB type for portable use does 10/100w..

Thanks for the responses, everyone. Keep 'em coming!

Looks like the Daiwa CN-801 is the popular choice thus far.

I use two Autek WM-1 wattmeters,a WELZ SP-600 with an added PEP kit,an NCG 2050, Daiwa CN-103L,& an MFJ 874.All work well but if I could only have one of them I'd take the WM-1 for HF purposes because it's a very accurate wattmeter & no need for calibrating anything for watts or SWR readings.I have a lot of stations set up so I need a lot of wattmeters & they always stay inline.I do NOT like any digital meters so I don't own or use them.

I drool over the LP100a but my ham fund is kaput for a while. So seeing Klondike using one for QRP on a poorly tuned antenna upsets me...LOL just kidding!

It is great if you aren't tuning anything like a tube amp or antenna tuner. Mine ended up going kaput, but it was a good meter.
